you guys driving your own cars will be fine there are 8 activities (2 classrooms) and you only drive your own car for 1 of them. the last session of the day i hoped in a 2014 Z in austin in 102 heat and lapped for about 25 mins and it was fine. yeah the temps were well over 260 but it didnt pull power. Those nissan owned Z's get beat on though as they are constantly hot lapped the whole day. besides its not a full out track day its lead follow and there the pace is measured

Do you think more advanced drivers would get anything out of it other than getting an opportunity to drive a GT-R? It seems like it is more focused on beginners.

yeah you will atleast get a free GoPro

was it and all out track day like im used to...no so dont expect that

but it is divided up into different groups and they ask you your skill level. they had the instructors run at an ok clip in Austin. I could go maybe 7/10ths in the corners it was just they had the instructors in Zs for the GTRs and vice versa and we would come up on them in the straights fast and were really limited. I never saw over 120 there.. I heard the 2nd day was more relaxed though.

but thats not what its about. the presentation of the event is awesome and forget speed the most fun part of the event was the autocross competition in the juke nismo! anyone who gets in should jump at the chance to go. It is very structured but they make and effort to accommodate every level and im sure have learned things since the first event

here is my first session from the event.. its probably fairly representative of what to expect. the second session i did in the 2014 GTRs went a bit faster but i didnt have time to grab my camera. and finally the last session I did was the least structured and I was in the Z not the GTR

However, a participant in my group did not show, and they let me drive my Z on the track. There were a total of 12 laps in 4 sessions in your own car in the afternoon at full speed (there is some track time in the morning but it's slower and more designed for the instructors to gauge your skill level). I spent the first three laps getting my car inspected and ready for the track (no decals tho ). I did the next three laps and reached about 260F oil temps as we were about to pit; I was cooled to around 210 before we started the next session. After 2-1/2 laps I hit ~285 oil temps - luckily we were just starting the last 1/2 lap cool down when I was contemplating radioing to the instructor that I needed to back off. I then let the car continue to cool down in pit lane while the fourth session was run (great photo op). However, immediately following that, I got to drive a stock 2013 370Z Nismo and a 2013 GT-R Track Edition

Note that I have a 2011 without an oil cooler, and I was fully aware this would limit any track time. While I was really, really hoping, I wasn't seriously expecting to get on the track with my own Z, so what I got was an amazing surprise. I installed EBC slotted front rotors and Hawk Performance Ceramic pads and flushed the stock brake fluid with ATE Super Blue less than a week before the event. I've run Mobil 1 5W-30 oil for most of the life of the car, and at the time of the event, the clutch fluid and power steering fluid were stock, and the transmission and diff fluids were Redline. I should mention that I had also recently tuned the car with EcuTek software (in May), and I was running Nitto Invo tires with a good amount of tread. The car had over 35K miles on it, and I was impressed at how well it performed overall. Even when it was pulling timing due to the heat, it was still driving hard and a hell of a lot of fun. Hopefully, you guys get some cooler weather in Oct in FL than we had in TX in June
Excellent advice. I'm taking my 2011 to the track on Wed for the first time so what oil temp do I have to watch out for? 280+? And if it does go into limp mode, I just let it cool down and it'll be fine?

I've a mostly stock 2012 with 22k miles on it. Looks like I should be fine with oil temps?

I did the Austin, TX academy in my stock 370Z. I hit limp mode once on a run when I was behind a very shy driver. He was hitting the wrong apexes and braking at the wrong times so I had to run my car harder to keep up. On the other laps, the car was fine.

I think the organizers know there's some oil temp issues. They were bringing us in to pit all the time, letting the cars cool down.

All I did differently to prepare was change my brake fluid and switched to Mobil 1 5W-30 Extended Performance (from the regular Mobil 1).
