I heard they are really butts about having a front plate in the LAX area ..they will seriously stop you just for not having one ..

Fact: I know someone who got a ticket for no front plate while his car was parked in Los Angeles.

If I were you, get the Stillen Bracket for a steal. Ask her nicely, she might include shipping.

It would be a good reminder that you got away for speeding once and learned from it.

Normally here is Socal, cops won't give you crap for the front plate. In my situation, it helped me get away with a speeding ticket. It was either the front plate, or a 500$+ speeding ticket with points on my license + insurance premium..etc. lmao

You're only looking at it one way. It could be 2 tickets the next time and if it's the same cop that pulled you over, he may not be as friendly the next time, as you didn't do as he asked.

So, I was driving back home from dinner with a couple friends last night. I took a toll road late at night, and usually there is no cops during that time of day. Unfortunately, there was a cop just sitting on the right side waiting just for me :( lol. It was pitch black so I could not see him at all.

He pulls me over, and he quickly comes over and asked me how fast I was going. I wasn't going to lie to him, so I quickly said.."Around 83 or so, I wasn't paying attention"...He then tells me he clocked me at 90 >.<. He was telling me how courts are iffy about such speeds. The whole time I was being polite to him, and he showed the same level of politeness. He then told me how it would suck to get this ticket considering my age and insurance. I told him I should have not been driving that fast and that I normally don't drive that fast. ( I really don't ) I told him I try to be really precocious considering the car and tickets, and insurance etc.

He then went to the front of my car, and noticed I didn't have a front license plate. He asked me If I bought the car use/new and just told me its the law here in SoCal to have a front license plate.

He went to run my insurance and such, and when he came back he told me..
"ok, would you rather fix your front license plate, or get the ticket for speeding"

I said.." I will fix my front plate" :D

He then just told me to drive safe.

Really nice cop...

The thing now is that...I DON'T WANT TO PUT A FRONT LICENSE PLATE ON MY CAR :(!

I am in Southern California. Isn't the fine a small fee ? anyone know?
Do I really need to go get the plate and mount it on, or can I just pay the fine?

thanks guys!

to pay next to nothing for the fixit, make sure you install it, otherwise it is going to cost you close to $130 for the ticket if you do not fix it, just find a local street cop to sign off on the ticket and take the signed off ticket to the courthouse and pay them $15

if you have a officer at the courthouse do it, it will cost you $25

okay... there is a lot of good information here already and I wouldn't procrastinate and get it done (sign off) asap before the court date on your ticket... or it could get pretty ugly on your end a.k.a. failure to appear or bench warrant.

yup, they don't mess around.

dood i got pulled over this morning too! and he let me go. I guess i was goin 90 and i didnt even notice. He was like "well...if i had a car like this id probably be speeding too. Slow down a bit in the future tho kid" and walked away. i was like helllllllllzzzzz yea! That woulda been number 3!

Akbubba47 08-07-2013 07:46 PM

The worst I've ever been pulled over for was 122 in a 55 -_- I was an idiot. It was in my sti tho, highway patrol was sitting in the woods. When he finally caught up to me, and when I realized he was coming I pulled over right away. He blew past me and had to reverse back about 30 feet. He was cool about it and by some dumb luck of mine, he was into cars and asked me to pop my hood to show him what I had done. Well after an awkward 15 minute convo with the guy, he let me go. I went home and cleaned my underwear and never drove that fast on local roads since. This was in 2010

I guess it's just old fart in me but what's the big deal about a front plate? It's the law in CA and always has been. At least since I've lived here which longer than most of you guys and gals have been alive. Zip ties? Really! There are a lot of low life punks around who would thank you for making it easier to steal the plate. Just give it a good yank and off it comes.

Congrats on knowing how to talk to a cop. I got pulled over doing 100+ in my old Mustang. I gave the guy the old "yes sir, no sir, I'm sorry, this car has a lot of power and I've only had it a while and didn't realize how fast it goes blah blah blah." He let me off with a warning. I got a couple of other tickets. It was red after all. You can't talk your way out of all of 'em. As an old fart who's been around a long time I say "why draw attention to yourself?" Go along with the little piddly-arse rules so they don't find something really wrong they can screw you over for. Like the medicinal herb in the little box behind the seat . If you're smart you keep your pot license there too.;)
