I don't get it, tank still has fuel. If the purge tank always runs dry because of the sharp turning than all you'd have to do is prime the pump a few times. Same as if you ever replaced a fuel pump before. Turn the ignition on but don't start it like 5-6 times. The pump will suck up fuel into the purge tank and fill it back up. Than you can start the car. Unless I'm missing something here! Every fuel pump I've done before is on an empty tank. When you pull everything out and dump the purge tank and swap pumps, the purge is put back in bone dry. Only way to fill it back up is fill the tank completely (which isn't possible in your garage) or prime it several times. It shouldnt be a big issue.

The problem is is that the tank has 2 chambers or a saddle so to speak. Take a hard right and all the fuel will spill over into the left saddle. The pump will sit there in the right saddle and wont be able to prime itself. It has a transfer system to suck fuel back over to the right side but as you know you need a bit of fuel on the right side to begin with to be able to get enough suction.

Its one of the few places you can push the car without really worrying about your speed. Make the turn then slow back down for the freeway. The car could have held more speed to, it stayed planted the whole time.

I've seen the pics inside. With 7 dots the hump isn't big enough to not allow some of the fuel to go back over I'd think. I've seen the tube also on the left side which should bring some back so i don't know. Not saying this is a myth, but more time, more primes?

We don't have many sweeping rights here in Phoenix, so I don't even have an opportunity to recreate this.

However, I'm taking a trip up North soon through some twisty's and I'm kind of worried.

Wondering if I should get a couple-gallon cans, fill them, and keep them in the hatch during the drive just in case. Sounds like I'd need more though.

You could be right, Like I said my car died and I just sat there and primed the pump and was able to nurse it back to 100 percent on the side of the road. My gauge went from 4 dots down to 0 around that turn as well.

Well from what they're saying 5 should be enough since the pump and fill up is on the right side. I have 3 5 gallon cans at home. I still want to do this since I have a 2013 with lots of things changed from the older years. Maybe they did, maybe they didn't fix it.

Yeah, same. I have taken sharp rights kind of quick (for me anyways) and nothing has happened yet.

I guess I just need to take it out to a huge parking lot and have some fun to test it out and bring some fuel along just in case.

Well there you go! How many primes? And with time the tube probable let fuel drip back over, fill up the right side, you did enough primes, and bingo.

Still a major design flaw and will be no fun racing.

i dont understand these complaints. i've got 26k miles on my Z and i drive hard. not once have i ever had a fuel starvation problem. pretty sure you just got a defective fuel pump or something. dont blame the car.

I sat there for a couple minutes with the pump on. Turned it on and off probably 3 or 4 times. The only thing that you got to be careful of is that you dont overheat the pump running it to long without fuel.

The curve I did was pretty much the same, only at about 80mph. Its the only time its happened to me.
