R&T 370Z long term test

The current R&T also has a 370Z update. Looks like their Nismo oil cooler almost caused a catastrophic problem. Can anyone who switched from ester oil to synthetic comment on the noisiness issue? AK...how's that Redline running?

look at that jetta TDI, 30,000 miles and not 1 buck to repairs. seems VW is improving.

I switched to Redline and the noise is minimal. But then again this is a sports car.

I put regular dino in mine and havent really noticed any increase in noise.

I’m using Pennzoil Platinum and it’s quieter than the Nissan Z break in oil. I recommend it.

I believe the noise they are referring to is the new VVEL(valve timing control) system. BMWs double VANOS is similar...

I took my Z to the dealership for the first oil change (regular oil) at 2000 miles. It was FREE first oil change therefore I took it there. Drove that for another 1800 miles and changed to redline synthetic. I felt that the car was significantly quieter than before. 3 other members that switched to Redline felt the same way.

So I got off my lazy arse and changed the oil in the car today (a big F.U. to Mr Dealership and their $180 dollar oilchange). I went with redline synthetic...and I swear the engine is SO MUCH MORE QUIET. The notorious ticking I've always had with nissan engines (same with my new titan) is COMPLETELY gone. Has this happened to anyone else? My friends seem to think I should lay off the crack pipe (figureatively speaking).

:icon14:

EDIT: This issue I had way back in March when I made the following post is gone:

I have noticed that engine is a lot more quiet during idling(could be my imagination but it was very noticeable. Anyone felt the same way?). I will change the oil exactly 6 months from now. I know I can drive up to 10000 miles on these oil, but I drive about 7500 every 6 months. So, it'll be easier for me to split them up bi yearly. Feel free to ask me any question(s) you have.

so i just did the oil change today. i had to lift both sides of the car so that the oil can drain properly. i think next time im defenetly going to go with rhino ramps or something like that. thanks for the DIY AK, it made everything much easier and the car does idle much quieter and it feels smooth.

I just changed my oil using Red Line 5w-30 synthetic. It definitely gets rid of the valve train ticking noise like others have noticed. The engine sounds a lot smoother now and the car just feels better (probably just in my head thanks to the new sound). Good stuff.

I'm very pleased with the result. I was really surprised at how the ticking noise just completely went away. I can't believe the oil could make such a big difference. I think I need to replace the transmission fluid next and see if that does anything. :)
