After 10 years in a Z, I am saying goodbye...

I had the privilege of driving a 2013 Boxter for a week and it was an insane amount of fun. You can just drive the **** out of that thing

I had the privilege of driving a 2013 Boxter for a week and it was an insane amount of fun. You can just drive the **** out of that thing like crazy, even on the streets, which makes it a ton of fun. You don't have to worry about when to brake and when to accelerate like you do in a 911, just keep your foot down and it goes right where you want it to! Never thought I could ever be a convertible guy until I drove it with the top down. Again, crazy amounts of fun. Feels faster than the Z too, despite the figures.
Did you get PDK or mt? Which suspension did you get?
If I were you, I'd look into getting the wheels powder coated and the PSE system. That's what my config would be at least.

I agree, it feels very planted. I can take on-ramps faster and with more confidence than I could with the Z. I ordered mine with the MT and Sport Suspension. I wanted the PSE but I was on a budget. Mine is spec'd very lightly by most Porsche owner standards.

yeah nice car... but enough with the congrats bs... is the 370z well below what the porsche can put out in terms of performance? will the porsche smoke the 370z? is it worth the money "60 k" to own that car? i dont know that much about porsche's other then it being a luxuary sports car. again is the Z a dud performance wise????

For the 911, there's something called a gundo hack that you can do to your exhaust to make it like the PSE (you just can't turn it off) and it only costs a couple hundred bucks for a muffler shop to do it.

And performance wise against the Z, the Boxter S got 3:04 around VIR, while nismo 370Z got 3:12. Base Boxter will be in between there, but closer to the 3:04 time (the base 911 had less than a 10 second gap with the S model on the ring). The take into account the added luxury, very nice ride, the insanely confidence inspiring handling dynamics, and the greatest transmission (either MT or PDK) and you have yourself a good deal.

What is smoking to you? Do you live your life 1320 feet at a time?

If so, you got the wrong car

The Z has a lot of pluses. Those looking for the ultimate sports car experience where balance, feel, and other attributes come into play over launching down the strait, the Z will lose out in a head to head to a P car. There is no shame in that.

Porsche has been making sports cars for a long time. They built their brand around it. They charge a premium for it. They best do it better then most everyone else.

.
Carnewal modifies the 987 exhaust for far less then then the cost of the PSE...you get an always on exotic, drone free sound. Did mine last month...wish i did it last year Cantrell motorsports does the mod in the US.

Not sure if the 981 muffler has the same feature but if it does it should be a matter of time before they modify the 981 muffler as well.

Ferrari cost 10x more than our car and it is not 10x faster. Do you really need someone to fluff your purchase every sec

Congrats on the purchase

Definitely someone getting an older model boxter I would have said 'yuck' but the new Boxter and Cayman are true beauties and I hear performance wise they don't stray too far behind the 911, so thats amazing.

P car could definitely be in the future for me but I'm still a Z guy to the bone...maybe I'll convince the wife to drive one so I can have the best of both worlds lol.

Only thing I don't like about boxsters is that they tend to lose resale value like crazy. I picked a nice one up a few years ago for what I thought was screaming deal at $10k only to see it drop another grand. I'd have a hard time using a new one given resale history of these cars. And because they are Porsches low mileage used cars are all over the place.

The question in my mind wouldn't be is Boxster better car than a Z. Is it worth paying $40k premium over a nice low mile 987 S?

The Z is a great car as I've stated. It's great value for the kind of performance you get. I'm sure many car brands, including Porsche, make some comparisons to it when producing a sports car in that bracket. As far as smoking the Z, by which I think you mean 0-60 and 1/4 mile, the answer is no. If that is the kind of performance you value, then you've got a good car in your hands. But the Z also handles quite well, which is what I value more. Overall, the Z is a good package. Is it the best at it? No, but it's pretty damn good!

The Boxster provides an overall better package in all areas. Was the Boxster worth the 60k for me? I'm enjoying this car, so yes, yes it was. But I only speak for myself, it's my money and I could care less what anyone thinks about what I do with it. Cars for me and like many others are sometimes more about emotion. If I had the money, I'd throw it down on a 458 and live in a 1 bdr condo.

Congrats on the purchase. I test drove an '09 Boxter prior to getting my 370z. No question there is a big difference in feel and refinement. and to feel and hear that flat six over your shoulder is pure magic. The killer for me was the lack of leg room (I'm 6' 2"). And I was on the fence about paying the extra 25-30k. As a side note, I found the Porsche dealerships at the time were willing to discount MSRP by upto 10%.

Have since sold my 370 and will be in the market this next year for another sports car. I stopped at the Porsche dealership the other day and sat in the new Cayman. What a great job Porsche has done with redesigning the interior. Very comfortable. I passed on the salesman's offer to test drive because I knew I would lose all sense of financial responsibility after only a few minutes behind the wheel

Of course I always come back to the Z, but would love to move into a Cayman S. so I'm struggling again with the price difference. And of course other cars of interest come into play at the Cayman price point . Corvette and M3 just to name a quick few. Hands down the Z is a better VALUE at basically 1/2 the price. But no doubt, the mechanical purity and refinement of car like the Porsche is a premium one must come to their own decision on it's worth. I my self struggle with living and never owning such a machine.

Again congrats on your purchase and I tip my hat to you for both pulling the trigger on spending the extra dough, and having the discipline to stay on budget. I can only imagine how any regret about spending the money is quickly washed away by a romp thru the twisters. Enjoy!
