Knocking sound when cornering

I noticed there's a single "Knock" sound from the rear when I corner (faster than normal). Sounds like something loose in the trunk, but I checked and nothing is loose.

Any idea?

Thanks

There are tools located in the trunk that could knock.. I also think that your wheel could be scraping a little bit (if you're lowered).

What I would recommend, is finding a decent corner, taking everything out of the trunk and taking it around the corner again. That way you can eliminate the knock.

The tires are definitely not scraping, the car is stock.

I hope the sound came from the trunk and not something under the car.

Thanks for the advice.

Does it only happen on right turns? Because if so I have noticed this as well on my '09. I would describe it more as a "creak" than a knock though.

I hear a knock sometimes as well.

I can't remember if it's only on RH turns or not.

I wonder if it's the trunk-lid weight or whatever it's called?

YES! Right Corner. But It's a knock.

Could the seal on your half axle be bad and sand and dirt infested with worn out knuckles?
Have you crawled under there to look and see if anything is loose either side? If it's really bad you should either see it or be able to lift rears off the floor and spin jiggle them to see if you feel anything loose.

Thanks for the info, will check it out over the weekend.

The car only has 40,000km on it, so not sure if it's something that worn out.

I like working on cars (on my terms)! I make it a habit to glance under my car occasionally, OK more than occasionally, but I just got it 6 months ago, honeymoon isn't over yet! Because there is so much going on underneath. I look for leaks, oily splashes, rusty spots, dirt collecting here or there, tire thread condition, seals, etc. It's just nice to know the status of your car's engine and drivetrain. Plus, I just like looking at how well it's put together. An automobile is such a mixture of mechanical necessity, art, and form following function that it's a beautiful thing to behold, especially something as nice as a Z.

Ive had this noise for a while. I put it up on the lift at my shop a bunch of times and haven't noticed anything out of the norm.

Sports car problems...

never had this issue, until recently...

Slack in the axle, maybe? Get it checked out.

YamahaR6 07-12-2013 09:28 AM

I think I figured it out. Stupid me, but I figured it might happen to others.

The knocking sound came from the "SUBWOOFER". The knob holding the subwoofer was loose; how it got loose I have no clue, but I guess the car vibrates loosen the knob.

So for those who has similar issue, try tighten the subwoofer knob.

Haboob 07-12-2013 09:30 AM

I don't have a sub... :(

Meh, I hardly hear it.

It's a long shot, but the one time I had something like this, I had a huge nail protruding out from the wheel well (as in, I must have kicked it up pointy-end into the well). When I turned, the wheel would get a chance to run up against it pretty hard.
