Made a mistake...
...drove a new 5.2 V10 R8 today and then jumped into my car afterward...
Now granted it is a $170,000.00 car, but dam that car is fast! Now I've driven 4.2 R8s multiple times on the track even, but this car would walk the 4.2 R8 easily! Point I'm leading to is even though our cars are very good, a twin turbo upgrade would fit well because my car seemed like a slug afterwards!! Anyone who is local to Atlanta, it is being parked in the showroom at Jim Ellis Audi in Marietta next to the 4.2 right now if interested. It's also for sale... Thought I'd share! :tiphat: |
Thanks for sharing!!! I think the V10 R8 is VERY cool!!!
|
so stuff a TT in your z and then compare right?
|
If i wasnt in Utah i would be on my way!
|
That's awesome that you got to drive that. R8's are stunning cars.
|
where are the pics???????? :shakes head:

12.1 quarter mile and 3.6 0-60.... I would imagine that the 370z feels sluggish afterward.
Each car serves it purpose... and the 370 is no supercar. Although I agree a TT would be fun, I like jumping on my bike for even much quicker numbers than those at the price of 10k... I can bounce it off the 16,000rpm redline on 93 oct and still have a nice relaxing ride to go for a cruise. Nick |

There is always something better. Be happy with what you have.

They let you just walk in and drive one? Sweet!
|
AWESOME! I would love to drive one (even the 4.2L model). I saw one the other day. Looks amazing

Love the audi...but GTR has better numbers for less though.

I drove a 4.2 R8 in pouring rain on a racetrack....one of the best experiences of my life! The event entailed 8 laps in RS4s followed by 8 more laps in the R8s. On the wet, slippery-as-ice track in the pouring rain, the RS4s were absolute dogs. They were all over the track on the corners. Then came the time in the R8s and I think my jaw was in my lap the whole time. They corner like they are glued to the track despite the downpour conditions. The highlight was screaming down the back straight at 150mph with 2 car lengths between each of the 6 R8s being driven, and all we could see through the windshield was whiteout spray and the taillights of the R8 in front of us.
Amazing day, Amazing car. I lust for an R8, but my Z keeps me thrilled in the 'real world'. |

Sometimes it's not about the numbers or the best bang for the buck. It's about how it makes you feel when you're in it. Take the new Alfa Romeo Competizione 8C. The car is a disaster in terms of performance numbers and costs a fortune. But the fit and finish is impeccable and the car is the ultimate essence of a true sportscar. The reviews say the exhaust note alone is enough to put a grin on your face and fall in love with it.

Finally got a chance to sit down at home...here are some crappy Palm Pre Pics from work today! As requested!

You can argue performance, amenities, styling, pricing, naming, etc. anyway you would like, BUT...at the end of the day all arguments are this: "I like/bought vehicle X because its fits ME and because it fits MY image." The 370z is no different. If you don't believe me, just look at the primary function of a vehicle. It is a way to travel from point A to point B. The only reason people drive different vehicles (also probably the only reason we don't all drive a Ford) is because of persoanl preference. We (as consumers) want the image. We demand the image. So companies give us what we want. :p |
So Jim Ellis is just letting people take this thing out for joy rides? I'd be pissed if I was a serious potential buyer.
EDIT: Scratch that. Just saw the part about you working for Audi. Well actually, on second thought, I'd still be pissed if I was a potential buyer and the dealership just let its employees take the thing out for jollies. |
its never a mistake to drive a cool or fast car no matter what you own, just enjoy the experence,

Just getting a chance to check in, I see we have a couple of negative comments...one local kid too.
First, We are required to test drive each vehicle directly after PDI process! I happen to be the guy who wrote up that car for PDI!! Secondly, This car competes with cars twice it's cost! It is a Space frame vehicle with Aluminum and Magnesium, Magnetic Ride, Dry Sump Oil system, FSI 5.2 liter V10, LED headlights, nappa leather, Bang & Olufson, track DIS, Rear biased Quattro, etc, etc, etc...the list goes on and the price reflects what you get! Now I've been on forums since 1998 working and there are always folks who can't wait to "chime" in. My question is why, You'll notice I play by the rule if I don't have anything positive to say I don't "Chime" in. Now there was a request for pics so I obliged, if some egos got hit for that my bad! We take pride in our work at my dealership...can't speak for other Audi dealers or other Jim Ellis dealers. That's the only reason for this response!! Now to all others who enjoyed the pics, cheers!! :tiphat: |
