Nismo makes a showing in C&D
2 Attachment(s)
This month's C&D has a two-pager on the Nismo 370Z. The overtone is that they feel it's not worth the money and you have to be careful when you try to better an already great 'base' car.
Also interesting is that that VQ engines (per C&D) are like fine wines...tey get better with age. Just a 2000mi difference led to faster acceleration times, but of course their realization didn't account for any other factors. Article below: |
Wow, good find! I personally feel that my vq37vhr has loosened up and settled in with time. My engine feels more responsive and smoother than the first few hundred miles and it just keeps getting better!

LOVE the avatar! http://www.the370z.com/avatars/370zd...ine=1248983721
Yeah, I posted a different thread essentially explaining my disappointment with Nismo models. (Thread is Nismo = Cheez-mo) I personally love my 6MT Sport Touring. The car is an absolute pleasure to drive and has an elegance and refinement in its body design that I and most people who see the car absolutely love. The Nismo ruined that fluidity and style. |
good scan, i haven't gotten my mag yet. i think the comments are fair actually.

Imagine that, they weren't blown away by it at all.

What jumps out at me is the 18lbs front downforce and 35lbs at rear. WTH. Didnt the 350z Nismo Z have 150lbs down force? Wheres the performance improvement? Is this 3 tests now where it didnt perform better? I really hope they have one in the Car and Driver Lightning Lap. Hopefully it will be broken in and actually crack 3:10 per lap as the old Cayman S did 3:09....I think the regular Z will crack the 3:09 mark so really the Nismo should be at "least" 1 second better. So far it seems to be a dud performancewise. Im gonna give it the benefit of the doubt and wait for a broken in retest. Cant believe Nissan would release a car like this that cant deliver the goods faster.

"Toy" my a-s-s. This is a serious car. It may not be Porsche GT3 caliber, but it ain't no go kart.
But I do agree it's kinda ricey looking. |

I have been very pleased with my car but, I do believe that the Nismo was overhyped, not by Nissan, but rather by the consumer. We all knew what the Nismo package would consist of but for some reason we thought it would be the god-send GT3 slayer. I think the looks of the Nismo are subjective and I will leave that to the individual, but by looking simply at mechanical specs the physics of it being much better than the standard 370z are just not there. It does however deliver a slightly better on track performance margain and does display some items that Nismo has to offer for the standard Z, and that I do believe is what Nissan was going for on this. While the Nismo may have disappointed some I think that it will please many, and further more be a great platform of which to build a full track car on. |
IBTL! Let's try to keep it civilized, I understand the flame fest in the bimmer thread but let's not repeat it.

I personally love the Nismo styling and performance. I believe we will see better times/performance out of them from other magazines/articles in future. |
You're no fun AK :)

stick figure with a Nissan head banging its knee against a Honda symbol
does this equate to "my car is better than your car?" Quote:

Nope, just funny.

Flip flopping would be like: the Nismo 370 is an awesome performer, but it could've gone through that course with a better time. or The Nismo 370 is awesome looking, but it's kinda ricey. |
This topic reminds me of the 350z forum when the NISMO came out. It took a few months for them to notice how much better in performance it was then now they all believe in it.

Well I guess Ill throw my opinion in the ring, being a NISMO owner. I really love the look of the NISMO, bearing in mind that looks are completely subjective. I loved the look of the NISMO 350Z as well, but many didn't like it either. Performance wise, Its a great car. I think the 370z in almost all aspects is a step up performance wise, so Its not like the NISMO is a dud or anything, I think people need to keep in mind that although Nissan claims its the track ready car, Its not. They didn't put an oil cooler, or a better diff in it, its not the end all be all track ready car they might want to sell it as, mainly because that would make the price above the magical 40k mark. To me, its more of a alternative to the touring model, as they are almost comparable price wise. Ones for the people who like a little more luxury, the other is for the people who like a little more performance, the issue is that no one has really seen a benefit to the 18 extra ponies yet, or upgraded suspension etc, but Im sure the NISMO will hold its own, as long as we keep things in perspective; Its still a sub 40k sports car.

Ricey = awesome or Ricey = horrible :stirthepot: Hold on, Sorry, I think I understand what you mean.... I think you mean under the skin adjustments and additions are awesome on the NISMO. Got it....... |

The simple question one must answer before buying one is this: is a catback exhaust, couple diff. body panels, jazzy interior and slightly stiffer suspension really worth an extra $6000? Oh, and one more: Do I plan to modify this at ALL? If yes to the first question, then go for it. Yes to the second, then you may as well piss your money away because you can get more car simply buying the base or base w/ sport and upgrading that. Not like everyone doesn't know that already of course... |

ricy = horrible, but as ricy as it might be, its nowhere near as ugly as the NISMO 350Z IMO.

^^ Your opinion, but I get compliments all the time on mine.

I'm all about function over form, but I think it could have looked a LOT better. On the plus side, at least the seam-welded chassis of the 350Z NISMO made it worth it. Sure, you didn't make "more" HP but a cat-back would net you the same type of gain that people will get with the new NISMO's exhaust. |
