Default Not a Nissan Fan

I purchased my 09 370 new. Within 40,000 miles, I have had an engine replacement (due to excessive oil useage), a steering lock box replacement, a slave cylinder replacement $900.00 (has something to do with the clutch) and I was told by a service advisor that my rear differential is leaking and would need repair. What's most frustrating is that the slave cylinder repair, and the problem has not been corrected. The clutch and pedal does engage but the clutch pedal does not automatically come back into place after use. This was originally diagnosed as being a bad slave cylinder. I have taken it back, where the dealership (Don Davis) has bleed the lines, to remedy the problem....did not work.

I do not race or drive my care at excessive speeds or harshly. I have owned other cars and have never had as many problems as I have had with this car. It is my first Nissan product and will be my last. Completely Frustrated!

All of those items are pretty common, especially 09's. Some time in 2011, they removed the steering lock mechanism. Also replacing the CSC with a beefier aftermarket unit would have been a better choice. Rear diff isn't worth much after 50k miles or so and acts like an open diff over time. It's crap. Did you get reimbursed for your steering lock?

BTW, I love my Z, none of those issues have crossed my path

Bad luck for you, I guess. My '09 has 45,000 miles and I run the thing ragged and have never had a single issue with it.

Frustrating, but I doubt you'll find ANY car out there that will never have a problem.

-Your problem with the clutch is likely the CSC failure, which is well documented. Bleeding the lines won't help if the CSC isn't functioning as it should.
-oil consumption issue effected a small amount of early 370's, also well documented.
-Steering lock isn't a biggie and was under a recall.

If all this happened within the warranty period, I wouldn't really give it much thought. Most sports cars are high strung to begin with and there is always a slight trade off in reliability. It sounds more like a crappy dealership experience to be honest. I've had cars in the past with less problems and I've had cars with more. The simple truth is, any modern vehicle is a complex series of mechanical movements and computers where any one thing can go wrong. This can be caused by wear and tear or slight imperfections during manufacturing.

Think of it this way, have you ever heard of a race car that didn't need some kind of repair due to a mechanical issue?

I have an 09 and got the new engine. Slave cylinder may be in my future but so far so good.

Sorry to hear about your misfortunes.

This was one of the reasons why I got a 2012 model. Give them a few years to work out the kinks first. It's like that for many first new model year cars. The first new cars from any manufacturer will have issues.

Ya, sorry to hear about your troubles.

I actually thought this was going to be a different kind of thread lol. I was coming in here to say I don't like Nissan's in general except for the Z

I had the Steering lock changed for free (preventative) and my clutch was hitting and sticking to the floor and had the CSC changed for free at the dealer too.

Ya, like other's have said, that first production year is bound to have some kinks but people can't help themselves to grab that new car...seems many people here with 09's have been good though.

Anywyas, hope its smooth sailing from here on out.

Sorry to hear, but I had far worse problems with a NEW corvette!

In the shop 4 out of the first 6 months. 3 transmissions, 2 differentials, etc. got my money refunded through the lemon law act. Have an 06 H2 that I've own since new and it's never seen the dealer.

Happens!

hummmm... sorry to hear op.

i donno, maybe swap the csc with aftermarket and get a true LSD while you're at it? much cheaper than buying a new car.

is the drivetrain still covered under warranty?

Have the dealer replace the CMC, assuming they installed the CSC and bled the lines correctly.

Also, oil on the rear diff could be rear subframe/diff bushings. Hope for a leaky rear diff, much easier to deal with.

That sucks dood. But, you can still salvage the situation. If you don't mind putting a bit of money in and replacing some key parts I think you will find that you've got a pretty bad *** vehicle.

If the car is stock, get a new clutch and a lighter flywheel with a metal CSC, get a Quaife diff, FI exhaust and a RJM clutch pedal , then tell us how you feel.
