I live in Tampa so it is hot all day every day. I need to decide whether to take it to the dealership or try and fix it myself somehow, but there really isnt much to fix, so I dont really know what I am going to do. lol

I havn't had this problem yet. Maybe you could get some 1/2 or 1inch black felt/mole skin and wrap it around the two ends where the plastic touches the bar.

It's most likely the third brake light, not the steel bar. Do a search on this topic... there's a lengthy thread about annoying rattles and it seems like the third brake light is the culprit.

ddvette9 im with you on this one... i started getting that noise this summer. I have driven around a parking lot just listening to the back and I hear it from the rear cross bar. I took at look at the third light but its seems to be ok not much wiggle room for a rattle, but from what i can see the plastic housing expands a lot more than the aluminum casing of the cross bar, and this causes the aluminum shielding to rattle.

once you turn the AC on and the cars temp "equalizes" it goes completely away.

I am 99% sure that mine is not the cross bar, because I had a friend drive my car while I lay in the hatch (lol). It seemed to go away when I pushed up on the hatch, and the sound seemed to come from around the latch, or the plastic surrounding it. But I can't identify or fix it.

Nor is it the third brake light. I completely removed the rear hatch cover and tightened the third brake light and surrounding nuts. Still there.

It happens only on hot days, becahse in the mornings when it is 75 or below it is silent, nothing at all. But it is most noticable anything over 80-85 degrees or when it has sat in the sun all day. When temps reach in the mid 90s the rattle is unbearable and I just blast my music. My one and only annoyance with the entire car.

I have noticed the annoying sound, exp. on back country roads! I am not sure if it is the cross bar, or the cargo cover!

hey felleas its not the crossbar its the rubber stopper that are on the hatch door make sure they are seating correctly with the small round plastic buffer on the vehicle where it comes intact with its causing the hatch to rattle

Goodluck peeps,

I have had to track down and cure a bunch of rattles. I've gotten them all down to manageable levels. One in the headliner that only buzzes when going over rough road and the other chronic hatch rattle that only creaks when on rough roads.

I too had the buzzing coming from the cross bar. Turns out, it was a wire bundle on the driver’s side behind the cover surrounding the crossbar. The wire bundle was rubbing against the bar or cover. After securing it, it hasn’t given me any problems. The other possible culprit that really surprised me because the sound didn’t really sound like it was coming from where I found it. Check the roof above the headliner at the very rear of the headliner. When I pulled it down, I saw some Dynomat material already in place (Guessing they knew about this issue). I slapped a bunch in and around the existing couple squares and the buzz disappeared.

For the most part, I have the rattles down to the point where I can really enjoy the car and I’m not embarrassed in the least to have passengers. While I really like the car, I have to say, I would think twice about buying a Nissan product since my wife’s Infiniti also has rattles I’m dealing with.

ddvette9..what part of Tampa do you live in? I have only seen two 370s since I bought mine back in Feb.

What's up Tampa guys? I live in Riverview. Got the Z two weeks ago and have only seen one 370 on the road.

To get back on the thread topic: No rattles yet but as soon as I throw a JL 10W7 in I expect to get a few

Good information, I occasionally have the crossbar rattle, it's very infrequent, and I thought it was coming from just inside the plastic cover..... your wirebundle fix sounds just like my situation. The 3rd brake light also does the rare creaking thing also, but not too often.......... haven't had the headliner one yet. I also get one in the front passenger side, either in the dash area or the door panel, but haven't been able to isolate that one yet. It is very annoying however!
