Eh, I've had a couple of VQ engines get REALLY low on oil (less than a quart, clued me in to severe oil consumption) and they never hesitated. I did get a lot of valvetrain noise, though, which I would consider the best indicator of low oil.

No low oil light either. Pretty sweet.

My best guess with this problem would be a malfunctioning MAF or VVEL position sensor.

Here's a pic I took as I watched them stare at the car for hours...
My dealership mechanic owns a 350z ,so he figured out something simple to get low clearance cars on a lift 4 blocks of 2x6 lumber just ahead of all four tires then he rolls ahead till they are all on top of the blocks then swings the lift arms under.

Okay....I got a quick call from the service dept today from my Nissan Dealer. I didn't have much time to talk but it seems it was a minor issue regarding some part in the exhaust system that was stuck. It was an inexpensive fix. Sorry for being vaque...I'll know more when I pick it up tonight and I'll give an update tomorrow on exactly what it was. Anyway, it wasn't an oil issue. I'm sure if it happened to my Z, it could happened to someone elses so I know someone will appreciate the info. Hey....since it was an inexpensive fix that I wasn't assuming as I was preparing for the worst, now I have money to get that rear spoiler that I always wanted

"some part in the exhaust system that was stuck"

well that's a new one

I'd love to see the paperwork from this "fix"

Sounds to me like they couldn't actually find anything functionally wrong, and made it up because the problem is a design defect aka fuel starvation.

I'd like to see the invoice write up for it.

Default The Correct Answer Alex is, What is a..........

A stuck full tank vent valve! Sorry....no winners today but please try again! Easy fix and covered under my warranty. Sooooo happy it wasn't anything more serious. Looks like I'll be getting that rear spoiler now. Thank you my brothers for all your input. I've belonged to a few other car forums in the past but this is truly the best. Now I know that I can never get rid of my Z because that would mean leaving this site. You guys make it great!

Sure we have winners. Anybody that said fuel starvation wins. Because basically the car did not get fuel into the system.

Exactly. What a weird issue- definitely uncommon.

Whatever, glad the OP got it fixed. Hopefully it won't stick again.
