Painting car matte white

I currently have a black 370z with mag blue forgestar F14 deep concave front, and super deep concave rear. My clear coat is pretty messed up, and it sounds like a common problem to have. Luckily for me, I am able to paint cars myself, and I have a shop to do it in. Basically what I am looking at is a 1000 dollar and 30 hour of my time paint job. Not too shabby if you ask me. However, I am curious as to what you all think would be the best color to go with? I think that a matte white with carbon fiber accents, along with a few gloss black accents would look amazing.

I'm also thinking about painting my calipers or having them powder coated. what do you all think would be a good color for that?

please note that I am going for a very noticeable look, and any extreme color ideas will not be ignored. thanks!

My suggestion us to get it wrapped.. half the cost and not permanent, therefore it wont affect resale or trade if you ever go that route.. plus if you get sick of it and wanna change just peel it and start over

So I just read the whole post.. didnt catch it was a diy.. in that case ignore the cost savings and just think if it not being permanent or affecting the value

Why not sand and re-clear coat it?...then wrap it if you want a change in color. You would preserve resale, and still have a semi-permanent color change.

Since youre able to paint it yourself also check out a matte balloon white, with cf and gloss black trims would look amazing

wow. that paint is badass. I'm going to look into that.

wrapping isn't practical for me, as it would end up more expensive than paint. Plus I have always been a paint guy, never really liked wrap.

You're going to RAPE the value by painting it a different color...

Mine's the right one, the matte one is my friend. He bought i black and changed it to matte white and sold it to another friend of mine of which live near to me.

I think it looks good with gold brake calipers, or cool colors instead or warm ones.

Just another opinion here...

I think that if you do a matte white, you should stay away from gloss anything. If I were to hand you my car and say do the same, I would add only dry carbon accent pieces including lip, rails and diffuser. Something about gloss on matte (when matte is the primary or highest in ratio) is just not right.

what happened to your clear coat? Any pics of the clear coat failing? I have a black Z and If the clear coat started to fail really bad I would freak the **** out haha. I am totally OCD about the paint on my car.

Matte black

luigi90210 06-09-2013 01:24 AM

you should use plastidip and dip your car matte white, its like painting your car, but temporary like a wrap(if you dont like it, you can just peel it off and respray a different color)

37ZERO 06-09-2013 09:55 AM

Matte orange would be my choice

Jasonle 06-09-2013 09:58 AM

that matte white looks hot!

90 ST 06-09-2013 10:25 AM

i saw a Porsche painted a flat blue, but it was a matalic color, looked sick.

tefft19 06-09-2013 11:27 AM

Thanks for all of the input guys! wrap and plasti dip are not going to be considered. I have my mind set on paint right now. I'm kind of bored of black paint, so matte black is off limits. Matte orange would be cool, but idk how well that would match my wheels. I'm probably going to go with matte white or a matte grey.

The clear coat on my paint started to have little swirls in it. if you search around the forums it seems to be a common problem for Nissan cars

That's an easy polish job

But if you want to change it up a bit and have the tools and know how then kudos  I think the right shade of orange would go fine with those wheels.

Or if you really want to be different, purple with yellow polka dots :icon17:

OMGWTFBBQ 06-09-2013 12:41 PM

Repaint your wheels gloss black and do your car in matte midnight purple. Done deal.

Or balloon white. Lamborghini has a matte metallic blue similar to balloon white that's pretty hot too.

Keep the black. :inoutroflpuke:

chknhawk 06-09-2013 01:19 PM

I like the balloon color.. that ish is hot! and I think if your doing the car in a white the wheel color shouldnt matter... Any color rims usually look good on a white car. Seen plenty white cars with plenty shades of crazy wheel colors. GL!

:iagree: also Nismos with the color matching wheels looks sick. Especially boosted ones.

tjlazer 06-09-2013 01:40 PM

matte black it. It will look sick.

luigi90210 06-09-2013 01:48 PM

If you are gonna paint it, go with matte purple with purple 24in rims XD

tefft19 06-09-2013 02:34 PM

how do you all think a Lamborghini green would look? or any shade of green really. maybe similar to mike the powdercoaters green. anyone good with photoshop?

///PureSwank 06-09-2013 02:48 PM

I say keep it black or matte black it. Those wheels fit the black perfect.

I'd stick with your original plan, matte white! Unless you plan on changing your car color every few months.

I agree. I want it to look sporty, but not over the top

didymus 06-09-2013 03:57 PM

Don't do gray, it looks like primer
