Gota ask a stupid question
Why do I see so many people say the first thing they do is turn the VDC off. Don't beat me up, as the saying goes "there is no such thing as a stupid question."
Thanks Jim |

VDC is the traction control. If you are going to drive aggressively, basically it can kill your upshifts by cutting the power. Until you have an idea of how to push your car and what its limits are, just leave it on. If you know your car and tires and feel comfortable accelerating in a high HP rear wheel drive car and you understand the implications of that, then it can optionally be turned off to allow you to enjoy a little bit more zip.

I like drifting but I like not killing people more. I advocate for safety features on during daily driving and full off when you're on the track. Anything else is borderline irresponsible.

Just don't accelerate hard with the wheel turned and you'll be fine.

Thanks for the clarification
the replys all make sense, I had always left it on and certainly will today in New Jersey with all this damn rain. Didn't realize that you could get a little more pop so will probably try this when it gets dry.
Liking this forum, don't know why I just found it...this is my 3rd Z, first was the last model year of the 300, second the last of the 350...makes me wonder what's in store for the 370 Again, input much appreciated...Jim |

Glad you got your answer! Honestly, unless you are track God, drift king, or really just a damn good driver to the point you could hold one of the previous mentioned titles, leave VDC ON, it might cut power during gear shifts, but there is a bigger probability it will prevent you from crashing If you have a LOT of open space, try driving with it off. Just for shitz n giggles. I only turn it off when I have to make a really tight U-turn

I read where VDC only cuts in when it's needed to prevent the car from sliding out of control.
I also read where VDC controls the car by adjusting the power and breaking to each individual wheel..it that is the case then it's it doing something that cant be done by the driver no matter how good the driver is.. And being computer controlled its faster and more accurate than humans can ever be.. So if this is true it would seem foolish to ever turn it off.. |
