Cut him some slack, everything he is saying about the EVO's performance is true. I don't necessarily agree on the reliability aspect but that is his opinion. Stock for stock the 370z wins hands down in every aspect but when you start talking about modified the EVO wins hands down. You can spend far less on the EVO and get much more compared to the 370z. I love my 370z but in the power department the EVO has the edge when you start talking mods.
The main reason I didn't go with a 09 WRX or EVO X was because of styling. I wanted a more grown up looking car and something that felt sporty. I previously had a 06 WRX and was considering the new STI, 09 WRX, and EVO X but they just couldn't compare to the feel of a true 2 seater sports car. All these sedans are fast and corner great but they don't give that feeling that you get when you sit in a two seater sports car. Having driven 2 seaters all my life (aside from my WRX) just couldn't go to another sedan. Also, as a medical provider I wanted something that fit my career. I shopped for 6 months and just couldn't picture a new EVO or STI parked under a sign that says "doctors parking only." Besides, I've realized at 27 that there will always be someone faster so whats the point. Not that I'm not going to modify my car or race it, but I'm not going to sacrafice feel and look just so I can get a STI or EVO that responds to mods better. For me the 370z was a better fit. I can honestly say that every time I drive it I have a smile. Then again I can say the same thing about my 280z and 300zx. I say drive the 370z but it sounds to me like you are hooked on EVO's, and there is nothing wrong with that. Good luck |

Serioulsy tho nothing personal.. I just think everyone should get what they want.. And not worry about what others may think. In the real world most people don't give a darn about what others have. I'd get an evo if it had 2 doors. Just not a 4dr fan.

I currently drive a Honda Del Sol (that I cant wait to get rid of for a 370) and the 370 is currently my dream car. I do have a buddy that owns a evo x that he is in love with. For me personally, I dont want a 4 door car and I would not consider an evo. As far as cross-shopping the 2, do you think that 2 seats is going to be a problem or do you want the more practical 4 door? Also, it seems like you put quite a bit of stock into power and hp, which like you mentioned the evo is more built for upgrades, and since it already has a turbo setup is fairly easy to mod. All the talk about the Z having more power, if you look at 1/4 mile times they are about the same. The x is an all-wheel drive car, and you can never go by straight hp #'s. It all comes down to your personal preference, but if it was me, I would be all for the Z.
Thats my two cents... Chris |

well once again i appreciate everyone's input...i just got back from driving the z and i got to say it was nice..the interior had the soft touch type material everywhere and the interment cluster had the nice aluminum bezel, the sub woofer on the spare was neat too lol but i felt a little disappointed on the power side of things...it must be because i come from tubocharged cars and where it should really be kickin it was kinda ehh...now its all down to extensive thought

I looked briefly at the EVO X, but after seeing its interior and comparing it to the Z, its just a night and day difference on fit and finish. I wanted a vehicle that was a bit more mature, and refined.

so u're saying the gsr which is not as well quipped as the mr will make a faster time than the better equipped mr by 0.05 sec? well then, obviously the 370z is still faster! the evo's lap time, per your "correction value", is 1.28.17, well what do u know, u beat the z4, congrats. but really now, u're still slower by at least .67 seconds go buy your evo x.

They are vastly different cars. My friend has a 600+ RWHP Evo IX that runs on ethanol. I have never been in a car as fast, but it's been turned into a total drag queen.
I would suggest most people bought the Z, because it has two seats, RWD, and a simple 6 speed gearbox. Honestly, most people that have driven AWD and RWD cars have a preference. If you want cheap power, you buy the EVO. If you love AWD, you buy the EVO. If you need the extra room, you buy the EVO. The Z fills the niche of what most people would consider a sports car. Two seats, RWD, 6 speed gearbox. Until the entry of the Genesis coupe, there was nothing else that compares to the Z, without drastically increasing the price. The two behave and drive quite differently. I would think a serious test drive in both, would answer the question of the chassis dynamics, lay out etc you would prefer |

It does require a recalibration of how you drive. Seven out of my last 10 cars were turbos, so I had lost the knack. Lower and mid-range torque are beautiful things. Usually there is not a lot of benefit in winding them out much above the torque peak. Not true when driving the Z. It makes its maximum torque and horsepower very high up in the rev range so you need to use the whole power band to extract its best. And the immediacy of naturally aspirated engines is really addictive. It took me a while to get back into that mode after I got my 370Z. I suspect that you did not drive the Z in a way that extracts the most it has to offer. I highly recommend you spend some time hitting the redline before you give up on the Z! |
