I expected more drilling from clarkson but not this time. He actually gave a couple of valid reasons why someone should pick z4. We all should face it, our new Z has some pathetic noises coming out of it compared to the old 350.

Not for defending the Z at all costs, but I think he's good at talking but less, less good at driving and judging a car.
I usually pay attention to what TIFF has got to say instead..
Ya don't think the noise in this car is harsh almost abnormal?

Which begs the question....Why is it so rough?

As far as your comments regarding Clarkson's qualifications, you apparently have no idea what your talking about, so therefore your comment has no merit.

YouTube - Nissan 370Z vs BMW Z4 Driven by STIG Jeremy Clarson REVIEW
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aRC12i8vIRc

VERY interesting episode. I wasn't sure if Jeremy would like the SRM but he loved it! As for engine noise, I wasn't surprised. He said the same about 350Z as well. Did anyone notice how Z4 took half the segment time and 370Z only got about 3 minutes worth? I guess that's expected since it's a Euro based show. Jeremy's last sentence is priceless !

Sound could be better with a better exaust from factory, ride isnt bad, but i guess if u compare it to a BMW maybe.. I'm surprised they didnt note how fast the Z was.. i mean it did better then cars 20K+ higher in price..

To be fair Top Gear dosnt favor Japanese cars much....almost always talks down on them when being compared to european competition. Regardless the Z still easily beat the Z4 around the track .

I knew it would beat the Evo X just like the Revup Version beat the Evo 9. Very respectable time I must say but off the old Cayman S by a good margin. All in all excellent performance for the dollar period. This is the best Ive seen the 370z look. Really sweet looking especially in motion. That color didnt look bad considering it brown lol.

my wife has a Z4, and no, we don't do the wife swap thing! (unfortunately). It is a nice car though, and we will be doing a Euro delivery on one of the new ones this fall to coincide with oktoberfest. Nothing wrong with liking cars from everywhere!

Yeah, no surprise there. Truth is that bmw doesn't really make track cars. I mean, no limited slip differential on any car other than M cars, not even as an option. And you can't upgrade easily and cheaply either with aftermarket. The diffs on 135i/335i, not.sure about the z4, have the ring gear welded to the differential mechanism, which means either swapping out the whole rear end, or massive cutting/welding/fabricating to fit the new lsd in. Not to mention generally smaller wheels and tires, relatively soft suspension, and ancient floating caliper brakes that are notorious for fading on the track.

On the other hand, if you want a road car, nothing matches the luxury, refinement, and pleasure of a BMW.

That's why I bought the z, cuz I plan to track it occasionally and the z is much more readily configured for the track. If it was strictly for road use only, I would have definitely gone with a 135i or 335i, or even z4,

Having read all the problems the 135i/335i cars have been having i'd stray away from owning one of those...especially after seeing my friends 3 series fall apart over the past year.
