You'll have to drive both and figure out which will make you happier. A Boss 302 should be able to give a Nismo a run for its money no matter the situation (and vice versa). It should be close enough that it will depend on intangibles that you feel and do while driving. While most Mustangs can handle sloppy, the 302 is the exception.
Be aware there is a Leguna Seca package which you'll probably want to try out. If it were me, the rarity of the Z is value and happiness. A Boss 302 Leguna Seca is going to just be another "Mustang" to all but the discerning enthusiast. |

Plus anything with a BOSS tag is going to hold its value more in this country. probably. But at the rate you run through cars, might as well get one and get a lambo next week...

Let me try to be objective here. Being a Ford kid as I grew up. My Dad was a Ford executive. I liked/loved Fords. After experiencing Z cars many years ago I became a Nissan fan due to their quality and durability. I own a Supercharged '98 Firebird that has great quality and I believe that the Mustang over the years has improved as much in the quality arena. However, the Mustang, Camaro, Corvette and Firebird interior always have seemed really cheap to me. I've owned them all. The exception to this rule might be the C7 Corvette which could me my next purchase in 2015 if all goes well. The one thing about American sports cars is that generally the interior is a step down or two from a German or Japanese production car. The fit of these American cars has improved over the years but, the finish and interior not so much over the years.
I too have thought about getting a Lime Green Boss 302 to drive it till it's got 100K on the clock. However, my 370Z will last well over 200K just like all my other Z's. So, if your buying it to drive daily for the next 10 years. Buy a Z. IMO if your buying to drive it for the next 5 years get the Ford. If you are a low mileage driver (10K per year) you might have your Mustang last 10year without major rebuild. That's my take. The Z last longer and will stay in better condition over the years. Just look at a few five year old Z's verses a few five year old Mustang's (some Z members call them Rustangs) and you'll see.

Ah, just sell them all and get a C7. Hopefully, there will be a ZR1 version with over 750HP. That would cause me to stand up and take notice of GM again. Not likely ... ![]()

The only difference being that the Mustang will look years newer than the Z after 10 years since all of Nissan's terrible paint and clear will have melted off by then. ![]()

Just change the oil, do the maintenance and drive. My wife will never give up her Maxima. It's a great car! Again no issues from the factory. Not even a ding or nick in the paint on delivery. Same went for my 350Z and 370Z. Not a nick, ding or flaw in the paint. GM - Blah. I had to have them re-spray the car the first week of ownership. Bought that at night. Paint drips, light paint, panel miss alignment. Yuck.... But, it's all sorted now. I hope that Ford has come that far. Like I said, I was a Ford brat. I was fortunate enough to have a new Ford car every year for 20+ years. Always some defect from the factory. Generally, fit and finish related. I don't see that it changed with my friends car either. The dash went wacky on him early on. Every Ford I know of has some problem from the factory. The exception may have been my 1986 Ford Taurus. I can not recall anything wrong with it from the factory. My friend's 2012 Mustang is going to be lemon lawed due to the engine light going on and engine miss-fires anything over 5Krpm and Ford can not figure it out. The paint on my Nissan's has always been good. I claybar them and wax them regularly to make them perfect. Here is a picture of my 1984 AE with factory paint: ![]() and my '86 Turbo paint: ![]() On the other hand: The paint on my '99 Sable and '87 Mustang Turbo faded and clearcoat bubbled after 10 years. To each his own and I'm OK with that.

Plus the useless comparisons of muscle cars to the Z is annoying. Let me know when the 240 was ever a muscle car. Or any other Z. They have been sporscars from day 1 in an affordable package. They were never muscle or street/drag racers by design. Even the motoring press know that. The comparison is price only, the competition in class is the Cayman among others like it. |
