Can "curb rash" be caused by just driving on rough road?
 

I put the curb rash in quotes because its not really on a curb, but:

When I got my car there was already some on the wheels but now that I have driven it for a week or two I notice more than I had saw before.. There is this quarter mile stretch of road on my street that is pretty bad because of construction with a lot of bumps

Since I have the 19 inch sport wheels I am thinking if I keep driving on this road it will keep getting worse.. But is this what's causing it? They aren't like massive potholes or anything just a lot of bumps and grooves in the road

Curb Rash has to make contact with a solid piece of material.

I don't see driving on a crappy road doing this if anything if will throw off the balance or alignment in the Z

Yeah.. Maybe since I can't stop staring at the car I am noticing more imperfections lol

Yeah, normally a solid curb or a deep pothole will be the cause of curb rash. I haven't had any issues with construction roads and bumpy roads, particularly out there in western North Dakota (heavy construction in the oil patch area)

I had never hit anything and found rash on my old wheels. As it turned out my ex hopped 2 curbs and cracked my sideskirt too :mad: check to see if your wife has been joyriding the Z....i'm just saying....girls.....sneaky :icon17:

post up a pict. it could be something else like contamination in the paint or something.

I don't think you could be damaging the wheels with road debris without hearing it and/or doing damage to other parts.

My guesses:
1) You're just noticing it more.
2) The chips are getting worse from the stresses of normal driving and has little or nothing to do with the construction area.
3) You're driving much too fast through construction areas.

Like what most have said, curb rash occurs when your wheels come in contact with a hard surface which results in a rough, jagged, metal-exposed, and paint-free finish of your wheels. Daily driving, however, will inevitably result in paint chips, gouges, and minor nicks, or even cracks. All very annoying of course, but unavoidable if the gem that you call your car is your daily driver. Let's move on OP :hello:

FYI you know curb rash can be fixed? I scraped a curb a couple of times and had it fixed...got it back to like new and then the very next day scraped my wheels driving out of my own garage!

Cost me $175 per wheel but just thought I would pass this along to you in case you did not know curb rash is curable,.,.even if my bad driving is not!

Yep I know it is curable but I am gonna hold off on that, it's my dd and I know it will get some scuffs over time

Maybe ill powder coat my wheels black in the future
