this has been the worst week ever
my girlfriend broke up with me and on top of that I was lining up a parking spot with my neck out the window (end of a parking garage) and my fat foot managed to hit both pedals and smack into the garage wall
Luckily it didn't crunch in or dent but it left something that looks like a ton of rock chips, plus a 12 inch or so long scratch on the front http://i42.tinypic.com/2954p3o.jpg http://i41.tinypic.com/2dm770g.jpg does anyone know if this could be a fix with touch up paint (at least for the chips)? How much do you think this will cost to get at least most of it gone? do I need an entire bumper repainted? |
Keep your chin up...better days are ahead!

Pearl white is almost impossible to use touch up paint successfully. It will always be noticeable. I have the same problem. It might be in your best interest to get it painted at a good body shop. I say good, because it's hard to paint match pearl paint. Good luck. It could always be worse

it's brilliant silver (but how much do you think a repaint will cost?)
|
ouch!
|
Thought it was white, in that case, would attempt the touch up paint. Worst case you need to get it repainted, which is the same worst case right now. It depends on where you take it to really. Around my area, you would be looking at like 400 for a decent body shop. And 150 at a maaco lol.

thanks a lot for the help
I got this used with some scuffs already so i am not extremely infuriated but I am amazed how stupid I can be sometimes never sticking my head out the window and parking again |
I just tried to cover up a few rock chips on the front of my silverZ. Used factory touch up paint. It's the about 20% better than it was. I would give it a shoot, before you try a professional, but you probably won't be happy with the results.

400 bucks to paint a bumper?? Holy crap just buy a new bumper.... it comes painted from factory around 600sh....my insurance payed for myne
P.S. sell old one on ebay for 100-200 bucks........easy fix |
Don't hit yourself over the head about it. Things happen. Good luck with the repair.

For the scratch I would polish it out. If you have a dual-action polisher (Porter cable etc.) it will work wonders... if you don't, just hand polish it out. If the scratch is deep, you won't make it disappear...but you will mask a lot of it.
If you want to try and repair the rock chips yourself... *edited: google repair rock chips |
I scraped up the lower front shortly after I got my Z. My favorite body shop charged me, IIRC, $40 to touch it up.
I have Solid Red and the body shop said it was very easy to match. They have some sort of machine that "reads" the color and tells them how to mix the paint. Supposed to take care of any inconsistency from the factory and weathering. I got the impression that all of their paint is custom mixed on-site. I assume any good body shop could do the same with your silver (but it may cost more). |

Never heard of a pre-painted factory bumper, but there's always a possibility. I had a new one painted and delivered for $250. I have no idea in your area.
As far as your GF, treat like a bus. If you miss the first one, another is right behind! |

OP, Dr. Colorchip for your chips, and you can most likely buff the scratches out |
