06 350z question
Hi all,
I have owned a 05 nissan frountier since 2007. it has been nothing but problems and recently i have had to buy a new transmission for it. safely to say after spending lots of time and money on it i have decided to sell it and move on. The 350 and 370 z have had my eye for years. Right now i think i can only afford a 06-08 350 and was wondering if any members new of any problem years for the 350 z or any thing i should keep my eye out for when shopping. I appreciate any advice you guys can give and look forward to joining the Z team. Thanks for the great forum |
06-08, most of the kinks were worked out. oil cooler will be needed though. just to preserve engine life.
|
07-08 had the HR engines (highest HP 350 engine.) 06 has an RevUp engine which puts out less power and revs a little lower then the HR motor.
Rev up motor = 300hp, 264lbs tq wth rev limiter at 6500. HR motor = 306hp, 268 tq with rev limiter at 7000. Oil consumption was not an issue at the time and oil temps still arent as big a problem for them as they are for us. (370z guys) Its still recommended to slap an oil cooler on those too but the 350z oil definitely runs cooler then the 370z. |
I think the 06-08 model still has the oil consumption problem especially on manuel transmission(Rev-Up, be more precise). Oh well, at least they don't have this coolant fluid mix into transmission fluid problem.;)

I had a 04 350Z...Never any problems except rear hatch shocks and right window regulator..No problems with the driveline at all...Nice growl, and pretty quick. Very reliable car
Traded it at 66,000 miles for the 370Z.. |
thanks for all of the tips guys

I say hold out and wait for a good 09' 370 to show up. At this point, a 350 would not be ideal. 370 is a much more refined car.

I Agree^^
Although, the cheapest 370z I have found is 20,999 and that was doing AutoTrader- Any Distance.. I havent searched in awhile though. But I think HR's are still 16-18k. Which means you arent that far off for a newer generation car! |
As stated above, the 06 had oil consumption problems. I had to have my engine replaced at about 35,000 miles. Then a friend had the same problem with his 06 at around 49,000... He wasn't as lucky as me unfortunately, as the warranty had run out. Definitely stay 07-08 if you can't find a good deal on an older 370. Beat of luck

The 2007 had clutch slave cylinder issues that were addressed via a recall. The 2008 was basically perfect. Oil temps are not an issue with the 350z like they are with the 370. The HR engine from the 07/08 is a great mill. However, if you can scrounge up 5k somewhere, you may be able to get into a somewhat higher mileage 370. The interior between the two is the biggest difference, imo. |
My 06 Z has never had a single maintenance issue since it was newly purchased. It has been by far the single most reliable car I've ever owned. It's the AT, though.

I had an 06 as well, MT. It was a fantastic car and I didn't have oil consumption issues but many, many others did. It was easy to see by inspecting the exhaust pipes on the cars with consumption issues. If you get an 06 that has a good maintenance history you'll be a happy guy, there are still things I miss about that car over my 370.

My dad....06 base. Oil consumption issue since 35k. Needless to say at almost 200k, one thermostat and both door handles have been the only parts that have failed.
