lol I did a pretty quick pull in my Vette to test out the sound pickup of my GoPro. I get up to a stop sign, Officer right on my back bumper... lol exhaust is a bit noisy. He followed me for three blocks and then turned off. I was sweating bullets lol.

Here in mass the tint limits are 35% on the back and side. I told the shop I wanted to try and avoid any harassment from the fuzz so they suggested 45% on the side windows, and that combined with the factory "tint" ( even though it's just the type of glass) if it were to be read with a tint meter it would probably read something like 35-38%. Then I had the back window done with 35% tint since the cops can't measure the back window. 45% is fine for me... At nighttime and on cloudy days you pretty much can't see in at all.

they do that, they know that people get uneasy and don't like that, so they do it and follow you long enough to get you nervous enough to make a driving mistake, thus they can pull you over. i got pulled over one time at 415 am going to work and the guy was real smart A$$ like. shining the light in my eyes and checking if i was drinking. and asking me what i was doing out at this time of night, i said going to work, he said , at 4 am? i said yes, and if you don't mind, your going to get me in trouble by you holding me up, if you don't mind, i would like you to speak to my Team leader and tell them the reason im not there is because Your holding me up.... he then stuttered and doubled back on his words and just told me " drive careful next time" i told him i was driving under the speed limit , i wasn't drunk, i was obeying all rules, i was on my side of the road..... driving careful is what i was doing. he just quickly got back in his car apologizing.

so .. i got pulled over.... officer tried to find something to get me for... couldn't, got called out for it, doubled back on his words and drove off, no warning, no ticket.... just a waste of my time. i also mentioned my father and my brother are "CPL ____ of the Maryland state police and my brother is SGT_________ of the Maryland State police.

You dont HAVE to test the windows before you issue a ticket. At least not here in TN. If the windows are in obvious violation (5%) there is no need to test it because its, well obvious. Also its not the States/Cities issue to make sure youre not violating the law. It is your responsibility to keep your vehicle within violation. With that logic, if your headlight goes out, the State/City should buy you one since your car came with one?

Every car I have ever tested has some sort of tint. Like Kayzee said i believe that from the factory all cars are tinted to at least 70%

PopoZalsa, Traffic cops get paid to do traffic. They have plenty of other better things to do like read the news paper, go to the gas station for coffee, or watch a movie on Netflix, but the public would go nuts if this is all they did. However, the public also gets mad at these traffic cops for doing what they are paid to do. Traffic stops. Its a lose/lose situation. Your second sentence explains exactly what they are supposed to do. Pull you over "for the hell of it" really means pull you over for a violation, no matter how minor it is lol.

Where to start.... I really cant tell you how many times I have been behind a car for a while, trying to get to a call. I know that the driver of the car probably thinks what you said above, that im just trying to pull them over for some reason because we are all the bad guys, when in reality, im driving to a call and they just happen to be going the same way. This literally happened to me yesterday and I was behind this particular car for about a mile lol. 90% of the time, if a cop is behind you, he is trying to get around you to get to a call, back to the precinct for doo doo time, or because its almost time for fresh doughnuts. You say that police follow you and try to make you make a mistake to pull you over like thats what we all do, all the time. In reality, this doesnt happen that often at all, and when I do it, its because I KNOW the driver is dirty (known drug dealer, just pulled off of a street known for its high level of drug sales, etc.)

Most people driving around at 4:15 have probably been up all night and heading home to go to sleep or something of similar equivalence. There is a lot of drunk driving going on around that time. Sometimes driving too carefully is a sign of drunk driving. If I stop you, and you give me lip about how im going to make you late to something with any hint of an attitude, im going to keep you there as long as I legally can. Im doing my job, and im sorry if im inconveniencing you because you broke the law. If you feel like you were stopped for no reason, did you file a complaint? I would. That is a violation of your 4th Amendment and I dont take that lightly.

Now before everyone starts to think that Im your typical cop who is a male genitalia, Im really not. When im on the job I treat everyone with respect as they deserve it. I you disrespect me, im going to disrespect you. I dont expect respect because of my uniform, I expect it because I am a human being. I would never intentionally disrespect anyone just because. I also never cite anyone for window tint unless the driver is rude. If you are rude it is fair game. Being rude will NEVER get you want you want with the police. I can promise you that. When Im not on the job you would never know unless I told you. People dont like the police because they enforce laws. Even the stupid ones. That is an unfortunate by product of the job. We may think that a law is stupid, but it is our job to enforce it. I encourage everyone here to do a ride along at your local police department. It will open your eyes to the lives and personalities behind police when they arent behind you (see what I did there )

One last story. Cops are def not perfect, as we are human beings. Some like for people to think that they are. Everyone knows that this is false lol. A couple of weeks ago I got behind this car that I saw with expired tags. I initiate a traffic stop and approach the vehicle. The driver is a teenage male black who looks at me puzzled. I say "Hey hows it going? The reason I stopped you is because your tags expired in Oct of 2013." He stares at me like wtf, and I stare back at him like wtf. After saying that out loud and realizing that im a DA, I politely say "Sorry about that, have a nice night", walk back to my car, and drive away feeling like a moron lol. Good times good times.

It's absolutely bs. Half of the Police Department have tinted windows on their privately owned cars and yet they still have the nerve to give a tint ticket to someone.

I totally agree. I was pulled over last weekend for going above the posted speed limit. I admitted my mistake, was very professional and understanding about it and he ended up issuing me a warning for it. He did however, end up giving me a ticket for having something hanging on the rear view. Apparently that's illegal (I had a wide view Broadway mirrior FWIW). A $54 ticket vs at least a triple digit ticket + points added? I'll take that any day. Plus by him pulling me over, I've learned my lesson.

PS - as the cop was walking up to me, I saw him touching my car and looking at it LOL.

That's their freaking job. Traffic cops give traffic tickets. Get legal tint or deal with the occasional ticket. I don't run a front plate. I sometimes get tickets for it. It's not the cop's fault I got the ticket. I broke the law.

Does that suddenly mean the officers are excluded and magically above the law when they are off duty and in their privately owned, illegally tinted vehicles?

Terribly flawed logic.

From a principle standpoint, you are absolutely correct. In the real world, cops don't ticket other cops. One of the very few perks of the job.

One of the million perks of their job, you mean?

Let me correct that, one the millions of ways they are above the law, and never incriminated for illegal, BLATANTLY illegal actions like speeding, running stop signs, having their car violate equipment laws, and so on? Dont get me started on the list.

Former MPD officer indicted in crash that killed two - Action News 5 - Memphis, Tennessee

A good friend of mine and one of my partners. He made a mistake and they are now charging him with two counts of vehicular homicide and three counts of aggravated assault. Police get charged with crimes too. You dont hear about the minor ones. We had an officer get ticketed because his personal car had expired tags. One of our Precinct commanders walked the parking lot of the precinct and saw his tags were expired lol. Does he deserve it? Hell yeah he does! Theres no reason why he should be able to have expired tags when no one else can. I have also had a failure to maintain safe look out ticket (accident in the squad car DOH!!) and a speeding ticket since being a police officer. You dont hear about these things but they do occasionally happen. We can also get departmentally charged (suspension days) for those violations rather than tickets, which sucks way more.

BTW there is a reason I dont ticket people for window tint....

His job is to find drunks at 4am. You know, the ones that kill people?
