More so than a sedan. The insurance companies know sportier cars are usually driven in a spirited manner, leading to claims. You're looking at one with over 300 hp. A better long term financial decision would be to buy something much cheaper and slower while you build your credit. After you turn 25, your rates will drop dramatically. Then, go buy something more entertaining while paying less in interest and insurance.

NickTurnon 05-07-2013 02:36 PM

If you are paying more then $500, Id sell the car!

Thats ridiculous.. There has to be someone willing to do it for less. Especially if you say you have a clean record.

Minsu 05-07-2013 02:38 PM

sry for my ignorance is scottsdale in AZ?

You're doing it backwards. Once you go test drive the car, you'll be far more likely to make an emotional decision that gets you on the hook for an unreasonable insurance bill. There will always be other cars.

so should i shop for insurance first? and spend more time there than on the car?

Chuck33079 05-07-2013 03:03 PM

Yes. Figure out your total cost of ownership before you get too far into shopping for the car.

You have a point. I made this exact same mistake. However I knew my insurance would sky rocket owning this car so I was ready for the increase in premium.

First year, cost was ~$1500 for 6 months for 370Z
Second year, cost is ~$1000 for 6 months for 370Z

clean record, defensive driving discount, 28 single male.

no change in coverage at all.

If you're under 25, good luck. I owned a POS 1995 240sx at 23 and even still insurance was $1400 for 6 months at the STATE MINIMUM. I can only image what a 370Z would be :icon14: Once I hit 25, the rate plummeted to $580 for 6 months.

fonzo179 05-07-2013 03:12 PM

I don't always get insurance. But when I do, I prefer USAA. 24 hour live customer service, easy to navigate iPhone/Android App, flexible plans that can be changed on-the-fly...

27 yr old male
Location - North Dakota (people suck *** driving here, no nonsense)
Never been in an accident
$500 deductable
I pay $195 a month because I claimed ALL of my aftermarket ****. I'm straight forward with them everytime I add ANYTHING new.

chrischhorn 05-07-2013 03:13 PM

USAA, I'm 24, wife is military. I pay $112 a month for insurance.

Actually my premiums went up from when I lived in El Paso to where I live now in Wa state. I've been with USAA for 8 years, I'll be 30 next month, no tickets since 03, paying 160/month full coverage for my Z and Tacoma. When I was in Texas I was paying 130 for both vehicles. Damn you west coast premiums!

Minsu 05-07-2013 03:19 PM

USAA, is that a well known company? do i need any eligibility for it

Tell me about it :shakes head:

For a city that relies mostly on public transportation, I have no idea why it's so expensive to insure a car in New York City.

One of the best out there, but you have to be affiliated with the military in some shape or form.

I wouldn't get to wrapped up on this, best bet is just to call around. Like mentioned before, way too many variables. Some of these young 20 years old that claim they are only paying 100/month full coverage might only have the bare minimum coverage required for that state, like maybe only 10k for bodily injury.. Just throwing that out for an example but that would basically pay for a band aid.. See my point ?

Seriously. OP, just go to the insurer's websites and put in all the info they ask and they'll give you ACCURATE quoted prices, it's a lot faster.

Geico
Progressive
State Farm
Allstate
esurance
USAA

etc..to name a few.

Do some research yourself because if you ask here, everybody's rates are different.

This. Nothing we can tell you about what we pay will have any bearing on your situation.

red2010z 05-07-2013 05:03 PM

Don't waste your time with USAA if you have no connection with military. They will not entertain you.

And I have had USAA since I was stationed in Germany when I had a BMW and they have always treated me right.

But I have heard people I work with mention Geico and progressive is cheaper.

mhill0425 05-07-2013 06:24 PM

26-Iowa
Totaled 3 cars(over 7 years ago, 1st was weather, 2nd not my fault, 3rd was my fault) and have had 1 speeding ticket. Had some other tickets associated with said car accidents.
I have Progressive, pay like 85 bucks a month full coverage 500 deductible. I was lucky, I had a snapshot in my old car, I got my Z about 2 weeks before the snapshot period ended AND it was cold out in these parts when I got my Z(February) so I wasn't driving around too much.

Nailzs 05-07-2013 06:28 PM

63, single male.
No tickets, no accidents, ever.
$93 per month for full coverage through Amica.

3.7 ZPA 05-07-2013 07:48 PM

New York and New Jersey, kid. You have to pay to play here. I'm 29 with one measly ticket from 3 years ago in my last car. Never been in so much as a fender-bender. I had Geico in the Si, and they raised my premium for the Z by 40% :icon14: Not even my guy that insures the vehicles in my company could help me out. I eventually went with Allstate, as an old family friend runs a location. After the alumni discount, I'm paying $230 a month for full coverage with a $500 deductible.

I need to buy a house in the midwest and insure there. New York is outrageous for everything. Tired of it.

nmjaxx9 05-07-2013 08:39 PM

AllState

i hear ya old man. but if i canget 230 i would still do it...500-700 is a bit much imo. almost twice the amount for the lease payment lol might as well finance at that point and not get caught with no insurance xD

Mrmaasta 05-07-2013 09:50 PM

40, Single Male, $65/month, Canada

You really need to think of the costs.....you may end up buying a car you cannot afford to drive. Still have fuel costs, regular maintenance etc.

Anyway good luck on a hard choice!

bdavis89 05-07-2013 10:18 PM

~$200/mth with Geico for the Z and my wife's '13 Mazda CX-5, we're 24 and 22 respectively. Not sure what "full coverage" means, but I went over it with my parents to see what we needed/should have. We'll be moving to USAA once I turn 25 hopefully, as that's what I was on with my parents. They're not the cheapest, but they don't skimp, aren't cheap, and treat you right. $500/MTH for car insurance is INSANE, I'd wait on the Z or get something else. Check every possibility first obviously, but at some point you may have to change what car you're wanting.

nmjaxx9 05-07-2013 10:34 PM

Insurance has full coverage on the Z

Insurance rates are high, but understandable 21, red racecar sports car and tickets. :driving:

NOFATCHX 05-07-2013 10:44 PM

228 a month for full coverage and 500 dollar deductible in NY. I'm 29! My insurance has never gone down! Have 2 comprehensive claims which shouldn't effect amount but who knows. I thought for sure by this time in my life I'd he paying half that! I'm with Progressive.

Erie insurance? Never heard of but at that price I'm going to look into them.

IndieRyanZ 05-07-2013 10:51 PM

SoCal State Farm, $70 / month. Comp deductible $0, Collision deductible $100, BIPD 100k/300k/100k, UM 100/300. Multiple policies discount. Single male, 26 years driving experience, no tickets / accidents.

Don't forget $1200 or so every year to 18 months for tires.

I have my house and vehicles with Hanover Insurance. Used to have Travelers and Allstate before that. Having worked in insurance, I'm not a very big fan of geico and wouldnt recommend it. Some of you guys have very high premiums. The Z is a little over $550 for the year. 100/300/100 liability, $500 coll, $0 comp deductibles. I'm 27, no tickets/accidents.

You're in Illinois. If you're under 25, live in and around NYC, and drive a sports car...forget it. Insurance companies are also using Sandy as an excuse to rape us. You don't even want to know what I drop a month for insurance for my company's vehicles. New York supports small business? My balls.

Car theft is second highest after newark nj. People always tapping other cars coming out of a parallel parking/Alternate prking situation. People putting beer rings on peoples cars from leaving cans and bottles, scratches and other types of minor damages that NYC cars suffer. Extremely high fender bender rate... :ugh2: etc etc
