About navigation map version!
i want to update my map version...
who can tell me how does the dealer update the map version in Z the method....? is it by the CD or from the CF card... I try to update the map myself... thanks a lot you guys...:ugh2: |
You cannot do it yourself on a 09, it's on a hard drive
EDIT: That was a little half assed. It's not easily update able by you because the update isn't on a DVD like 2010+ |
So for 2010 and newer its a CD that updates the map? If it is can we get it and do it ourselves?

hmmm... I wonder if you can find them on the ol interwebs?
|
anyone every get the 2009 nav updated? if so how did you go about it?
i wanna update mine since there have been some changes to many of the roads and highways around me. |
You can order the update online from Nissan (special pricing through June 30, 2013), which comes with 5 DVDs. Apparently, you have to provide the Unit ID for your navigation system in order to get an activation code. I looked around for a torrent, but only found an old 2009 version with no explanation regarding the activation. I'm guessing it will be extremely unlikely that someone bothers to crack the activation.

The 2009 will still cost more than $100.

Yeah, I can imagine the "service" is just plugging in a USB cable and running some software that applies the update. Soooooo tough. |

I heard a couple of stories where the dealer charged an extra 2 hours of labor on top of the update cost because that's how long it takes to install the 5 DVDs. The tech spends about 2 minutes per DVD actually working on it (i.e. swapping it out for the next disc) totaling 10 minutes of actual labor :shakes head:

too bad i think i'm gonna buckle and use my free steering column lock change that nissan sent me. i need the clock spring in there replaced anyways (no power going to the lighting of the steering controls, and horn not working now, possibly no air bag either lol) so while they are in there might as well do a swap. all free but i dont trust any fckin lot boys after the last time my car was in there mysteriously was 12 extra miles put on my car (yes im that guy who takes pics to know what was on the car when it went it) now i wish i had my tuner put a valet map on my car lol :shakes head: |

pull the fuse once you get the ESCL replaced... I take pics of mileage, too, and I make sure someone in authority knows this before I leave the car. That way they know it's their a$$ if something is amiss. I want valet mode so bad. I'm working with a tuner nearby on the new ECUtek software. They have a track Z they've been working with, and were looking for a street Z to build their tune in the new software. The multiple tune feature is still in development but will be available to me once it is finished and released by ECUtek. Hopefully I can get my car to them next weekend; they want $175 for the license and everything else is free  |

glad to hear i'm not the only one who does that lol i bitched about the mileage they tried saying they had to take it from the shop to the dealership shop (they have 2 shops due to volume of cars they sell/service) to reset the the power windows......which i have done myself with the window switches if the windows screw up. so thats BS lol $175 is a great price  |

Just got the letter myself.
Trying to decide if I want to update or not. Honestly, the system isn't that great anyway. I've had a number of places it wouldn't find (but Google Maps did). Kinda crazy using a $3000 system that can't find a house when the free Google Maps on my wife's phone knows where it is. |

I have an '09 and updated my maps last year to the 2012 version. You have to first purchase it online and then take the code they give you in to the dealer. Then the dealer does the install for you based on their own installation software tools.
When I first took my car in they had it sitting in the back for 2 hours while I waited. I kept checking on it and noticed that it wasn't being worked on and nothing was being installed. So I went to the head mechanic who told me that they were actually missing an installation disk and couldn't do it today. I asked they why in the world they had me waiting in their lobby for 2 hours and why I had to go hunting around back to determine that nothing was being done. He apologized and said that I should come back in a week when they had the right tools. A week later I returned and, as someone has already mentioned, they said that it would take 2 hours to install and that I would be charged for 2 hours of work. I asked them what the install process was and whether the mechanic had to be in the car at all times. They said of course not; they just kick it off with a button press and then swap to the next disk (or whatever their equivalent was) part-way through. When I mentioned that meant that the mechanic was working on other cars and therefore they were double-billing clients for labor, he turned a bit red and said that he would work out a discount for me. Still, out the door with software and install it was $250 (originally $400 with "normal" labor and the non-discount price for the software upgrade). Pretty frustrating. |
yupppp noooo

Seriously, Nissan? A $2000 NAVI package should include upgrades, at least for the duration of the warranty. That is just lousy customer service. |
conclusion...
no one can hack into the navi system and update version... even though i have map cd..i still cant DIY to install the new map... its impossible ,,,right? |
In a 2009, unfortunately, yes. You'll have to go to the dealer :ugh2:

2010 and newer models do not have to go into the dealer. You order the upgrade DVDs, and you can do the update yourself with an activation code provided when you purchase the upgrade.

About navigation map version!
Is there a separate firmware update for the 2010 370z OEM STEREO with Nav? I keep having to refresh my xm signal from there website every time I start the car. This just started happening after I transferred my subscription over from sirius. Radio memory is fine it's just the satellite. I thought maybe there was a firmware update?

This thread caused me to start looking at updating my NAV. Turns out the maps are on sale through to June 30th!

anyone know a hack for this? like some super computer nerd would be awesome right now. |
The 09 updates are done via CD or USB?
If we could gain access to what media they use for the updates, then you can do it yourself usually. |

the way it works is i go on nissan's website pay them 150 (99 on sale right now) for a activation code. go to a dealer who has the newest verison, give them the code, guy hits install, and i get popped for a hour of labor or more for him to do nothing at all. i seriously would love to figure out a way around that. :shakes head: i hate delaerships. i dont trust them. never will. |
Need to find someone who works at a dealership and get a copy of the install file.
Or, if the later models are CD based can we copy the data to a USB drive and use it that way. |

i got a uncle who is a saleman at a dodge/nissan dealership. maybe i can swing something. |

With the 09 with it being loaded via USB, does it just auto play and know what to do or are there inputs done via the consult that are required. |
