^ Hey old people gotta have a sports car too. :icon17:

JeepZen 12-14-2008 10:03 PM

Give the 7AT a bit of credit. I have a G35xS with the 6AT and it is the second best automatic transmission I have ever driven. Manually shifting it makes the car very engaging and the rev match system is excellent. The rev matching on the AT was one of the major selling points of the xS for me.

As much as I love that 6AT, if I bought a 370z though I would likely still get the MT. The 6AT is awesome in my four-door sports sedan, but the two-seat coupe is an entirely different beast. My heel-toe is lousy (size 13 feet and knee problems) but I have high hopes that Nissan has developed a manual transmission that can compensate for my lack of ability. If it works as well as the rev matching on the 6AT I think the 6MT will be an easy sell.

bigdog1250 12-14-2008 10:09 PM

If your not packing a stick then your a woman, or a tranny. Facts of life.

danHA 12-14-2008 10:12 PM

MT for life! After going from an Integra with a 5spd and then to a 2006 Subaru Legacy GT with an automatic transmission, I missed manual so much, that I took the hit and traded it in for a 2007 Subaru Legacy with a 6spd. There is nothing that disconnects you from your car more than having a slush box!!

shumby 12-14-2008 10:59 PM

lets not turn this into a 7at 6mt pissing match guys just want to see what the % is for each keep it civil and no 7at bashing ok.

blacknbean 12-14-2008 11:12 PM

6mt..my other car is an auto grocery getter

AK370Z 12-14-2008 11:42 PM

I know many people here can't wait to test the Synchro Rev match but the new 7AT is nothing to joke about! They are saying it's one of the best they have yet to offer.

Those paddles do look awesome!

shumby 12-14-2008 11:43 PM

I love it in my G37S

shumby 12-14-2008 11:44 PM

Get a good grounding kit and the shifts are super fast as well as better throtel responce.

WUKILLABEEZ78 12-15-2008 12:47 AM

7 speed auto. I think people are going to be surprised when some of these car mags finally get around to testing the auto. It should be just as fast if not faster than the manual through the 1/4 mile and to 60mph... (This was certainly true for the VQ35HR). I'm not getting the auto because I think it's going to be faster though, I'm getting it because unfortunately I never learned to drive a stick.

cstr_Cali 12-15-2008 12:49 AM

Only 7AT for this L.A. traffic guy.

Its not too hard to learn my friend.
That being said , I 'm sick of a six speed as traffic increases here.
The 7SP auto is a huge win.
This transmission is going to test very well comapared to other paddle shifters from the past and I imagine it will sway a lot of manual fanboys into the new niche of driving, and tuning.

tranceformer 12-15-2008 07:50 AM

I'd agree that the 7AT will run some good numbers AND be more consistent but I'm going to go with the 6MT simply for the fun-factor. Every car I've owned was a manual transmission, so I guess I'm used to dealing with traffic.

drmike 12-15-2008 10:17 AM

6MT for me. I'm a very competent heel&toe driver, but I can't wait to try the rev-matching widget in the new car.

To be more specific the 7AT SEDAN has posted the fastest times for the G37 (the 5AT in the 07-08 G35 sedans is also faster than the G37 coupe as well).
