touring vs base with sport

Well i recently bought a touring w/o sport. i thought long and hard about either getting touring w/o sport or base with sport. I decided to go with touring bc since its a daily driver, i would rather have the necessities that come with touring. Also because I was planning on switching wheels and adding on a bbk. Now i sorta regret not getting sport because of SRM. Is SRM that much of a need. IMO having SRM on the track would shave off only a second. What is yalls opinions. :hello:

SRM only does what a good driver does anyway....

It certainly isn't a need.....but it sure is fun to downshift fast and those revs match exactly. Makes for much smoother deceleration.

I do like to toe-heal from time to time so its nice to be able to switch it off and go back to analog mode when the feeling strikes

One of my main reasons to get the sports package was the lsd....big regret of mine was getting the base 350z instead of the enthusiast so I didn't want to make the same mistake twice.

thats what i was thinking too. if you drive stick, you should know how to use it. but just having that gadget is unique and interesting and fun to use.

eddieconfetti 07-22-2009 12:37 PM

what exactly does vlsd do?

It's a limited slip differential so that you get better traction off the line as well as coming out of turns.

I wanted a base w/spt, but the only thing available in my area was base w/nothing or touring with sport, so I went with the touring/spt... no regrets

Personally, I can't purchase a sports car without the performance enhancement options included. In this case, the Sports Package just suits the Z so well that it would feel incomplete without it.

The beauty of the SRM is it can be switched off. So if one finds it offensive, simply turn it off. The benefits of having LSD is also a major plus with sports cars like the Z. And for the price with what's included in the package, I think it's a great deal to pass up.

Could I rev-match my G35? Yes... could I do it as well as the computer can? No... Just like w/ a single clutch sequential - the computer does it as perfectly as a human could EVERYTIME... just like that the revmatch is perfect everytime... something a human could never do...

Its a sports car - the Sports package is all but a given. People spend absurd amounts on paint protection, etc but skimp on the performance gained from the Sports package. I can see if you are buying the car to build as track or race car getting a base model but I don't see any other reason not to get the sports package. Its a great value - just the wheels and tires alone are close to the cost of the package not to mention the bigger brakes (over half the cost of the package) as well as the looks/performance of the additional aerodynamics. The SRM is likely a big resale feature. Speaking of resale the Sports package items will enhance the value of the car unlike adding aftermarket parts which tends to devalue a car at times... sports is a no-brainer unless you are building up from a base platform.

Foolish not to get the LSD.

I agree. For my money the sport package is well worth the 3K, but I can see where some people wouldn't opt for it. Many people will never notice the bigger brakes. SRM is cool, but in daily driving, really not necessary at all. I love the bigger wheels and rear spoiler, but if you're going to add aftermarket stuff then I could see why someone wouldn't pay the extra.

True but if you ever sell the car the SRM is likely something that will be desirable being the first car to have it it will be saught after....

For me, the LSD was the key motivator for the Sports package. I turned off the SRM after playing with it a couple of days and haven't turned it back on. I like the forged 19" wheels, but would prefer forged 18" given the pavement quality around here and the weight of the larger wheels on track days. The spoilers are a mixed blessing, especially the front one. My rear one has a tendency to fill with water if it sits out in a thunderstorm, then dump all over the side of the car when the hatch is opened.

All told it is worth the extra $3k if you want this stuff. If you are financing your car, this is a definite advantage vs. buying better aftermarket alternatives piecemeal later.

Others make a good point about aftermarket vs. Sport package. Indeed, I would prefer a gear driven Quaife LSD, and an aftermarket big brake kit with stiffer calipers than the Akebonos, and slotted rotors. Forged 18" wheels, etc. In other words, I'd prefer different options than the sport package offers, but would I actually find the money to get all this stuff? Not in the first year, that's for sure. So for me the Sport package is a great deal, priced well, and enhances my enjoyment of the vehicle. That lets me spend my enhancement money on exhaust, cats, intake instead of stuff that I got "free" as part of the Sport pack.

Happy camper!

HJM

What "necessities" come with the Touring? You do mean more like "nice-eties", right?

Not getting the Sport package is pretty much fial when buying this car unless, like it's been said, you plan on building a track car or plan on upgrading the wheels/tires/brakes/LSD/aerodynamics immediately. The SRM is just a bonus, and a cool one at that. The items included are worth so much more than what you're charged for them.

eddieconfetti 07-22-2009 07:48 PM

well yeah. the stuff that comes with touring isnt really a need, but i had a luxury car before, so i wanted the luxury stuff. the dealer i went to didnt have sport/touring, it was either touring or base with sport. with all yall comments, i now regret more not getting sports

Sashimi 07-22-2009 09:19 PM

Like many others I bought the sport package because of the LSD, the SRM is cool, but I rarely use it

AK370Z 07-22-2009 09:47 PM

I LOVE the SRM! :tup:Also, big Brakes, super lightweight rims (I hate heavy rims) and LSD made me add the sports package. You can't go wrong with it. For $2602, it's worth it! Maybe you can find someone to trade your car here? Though I highly doubt someone will go from sports to non sports.
