Special Delivery in the Z yesterday

It's almost the month of May, so yesterday did one of the coolest things I get to do each year.

Delivered the etched milk bottle that the winner of the Indy 500 will drink out of this year. It's kept in a special padded bag (actually a wine tote). I can't show pictures of the actual bottle or I'd have to kill each & every one of you (and I don't have time for that).

It's cool to be one of the first people to hold such an iconic item in racing. And it was delivered in a Z. :)

Sweet, now WE know who to kill for a free quart of milk, LOL!!!

Won't it go bad?

It's probably just the empty bottle.

I hope they fill it with fresh milk a few minutes before the race finishes

Each driver fills out a card that is kept by the 'Milk Men' that shows what type of milk they want. And then when the checkered flag falls, the bottle is filled with that type from gallon jugs.

Only one person knows what dairy the milk is actually from, and it's never revealed so the dairy can't use it for promotional purposes.

And this is one of 4 bottles. The winning team owner and winning chief mechanic also get one. The fourth one is a second driver's one that is given to ABC TV to shoot the pre-race intro with.

Here's the wall in my office showing the winners bottles I've done. Started with Hornish, and this picture was before Dario's last year. My dad handled it before then.

The Dairy Association is very protective of it until Race Day, so no photos are allowed until then (unless you're ABC). A few years ago it was named 'The Coolest Prize in Sports' by SI.

This one is actually different than any one we've done before (aside from the 2013 logo). We'll see if anyone notices after the race, and I'll say what it is after the checkered flag drops.

Here's about my favorite photo of the bottle. And I have a brick from this chair. I was talking to Dan about the bottle just 3 weeks before he was killed. We raced at the same kart track.
