Service Record from Nissan - Pre owned Z
I have a new to me 2009 Z, and I'd like to get the service record printed from the Nissan dealership near me. I know that it's confidential but the car maintenance record should be "printable" by the dealer. I have the Carfax but it only has 2 oil changes on it and I'm curious what if anything has been done to the car by Nissan. Does Carfax print this information in it's entirety from Nissan records? If not, where does Carfax get their service information?
TIA PS: Hope this isn't bumped to the "Service and Maintenance" section... |

Now that you mention it, the car did smell faintly of Dudelube, but I thought it was just my imagination...where did you say you live?
Now, with that out of the way, can anyone answer my question? |

since you need everything spelled out...
you bought a used car that had 2 oil changes done. wat else do you want to know or need to know? if you were so concerned, buy a new car. just drive it and enjoy it. here's a bonus: pull the fuse or cut brown wire. GL! |

Carfax can only tell you what it has been told, via insurance, police records, or service/dealerships that participate. And even then it's often limited to the detail the tech put in. I'd *guess* that most dealerships participate, so if the car was always brought to the dealer for work, it should show up.
Nothing beats having it fully inspected by a qualified mechanic. If everything checks out, there's not much reason to worry about it, so just start your own log book! |

Just go to the dealership and ask to get all service and WARRANTY claim records pulled and printed for your car. Should be very easy. The service work is not that big a deal, they could get oil changes elsewhere, but all warranty work is done through Nissan North America, which will be in the record file. If you ask just for service that is all they will give ya.

Yeah, as long as you're not looking to get personal information, and the previous owner always did business with the same service department, this sort of information doesn't seem all that sensitive or important. They probably will just give you the history as the new title-holder.
But I'm not an expert. |

Thanks Japanjay and Elvee, good advice.
MTS, check your inbox. In the meantime, I've got an upcoming appointment to get my steering wheel lock changed, waiting for them to get back with me at the Stealership. |

That change will be recorded against your VIN. Anything that is warranty will be annotated in the system and when pulling the VIN for warranty records stuff like that will show up.
I learned the hard way. Did the same thing but didnt ask for warranty work, just assumed it was all tied together. When I went in for an oil consumption test at 38k, which I failed and in turn got a new short block, they stated that the motor that I was looking at wasnt the original. I about blew a f-ing gasket in service bay. I told them I had came in when I first was looking at the car and asked a service advisor to tell me if there was anything out of the norm with this car regarding the service records. I was told nothing but the typical oil change stuff. The warranty claims manager stated he more than likely didnt click to pull up warranty work. I was irrate to say the least. Told them I would have never bought the GD car if I would have known that.... SO MAD..... |
