Before you got into modding, what did you think made cars look good?
I remember before i truly understood how the separate concepts of modding for aesthetics (lowering, spacers, flush fitment, offset on wheels, combinations of lip kits, color matching) worked, I had a very Need For Speed understanding of what made a car look good.
I used to think all you need to do is slap on a bodykit and there you go, car looks good  Also, I used to believe that bodykits are pretty much sold in one single piece that changes the entire body of the car :ugh2: :icon17: :icon17: :icon17: Never even knew that separate panels like bumpers existed. First time I saw a lip kit and the price for it I thought "wtf what a rip off?!?!?! this isnt even a body kit and costs out the a$$" :inoutroflpuke: :inoutroflpuke: :inoutroflpuke: Good days. This was about three years ago, graduating highschool with a getto jetta thinking im thug life on the streets. :bowrofl: Tell your stories gentlemen. |
This was about 13 years ago, but I thought to have a cool car you needed underglow and lambo doors :ugh2:
My how things have changed :rofl2:  |
I kept mine simple and super clean. A high end well balanced 3000 watt 22 speaker sound system complete with 30 band eq, center channel processing, rear delays, multiple x overs, optical cables, ultra shielded RCA's, and what not was all that mattered to me. Audio equipment was more expensive than the car. Oh yeah, a nice set of rims too. Sold a bunch of audio gear to fund my mods on the Z.

Its true in High School I had a 96 Ford Cobra with UnderGlow.....
DAFUQ WAS I THINKING......:shakes head: |
Fùck all you guys...
If it was acceptable to put neon under your car, you best goddamn believe I'd install it (almost did on my Maxima) and again, with Lambo doors, for me it's more the function over form, let's face it, some parking spaces suck... And I'm 6'3", definitely not a small guy either, if I had Lambo doors, I could open my door completely in ANY damn parking space. (DeLorean for example, 11" to open the door completely, granted, if you only have 10" you can't open the door, but unless you're a twig, you ain't getting out of a normal car with 10") |

I was never into that ricey fast and the furious stuff, except for the neon lights. Back in High school I thought interior and underbody neons were the ****.
Aesthetics though my tastes have been pretty consistent. I like clean lines and to enhance the OEM look. All of my cars have had the same formula from a looks standpoint. I put a subtle lip kit to enhance the cars lines, eliminated wheel gap, and a nice set of bigger wheels (usually an OEM set from another car). That's typically all I'll do. I used to be into modding the stereo and spent tons of money on multiple set ups on my first car but nowadays I prefer to just get the upgraded oem system and nav and call it a day. OEM look > aftermarket . |
Dunlop GT Qualifiers :ugh2:
Oh, and a long car antenna! Maybe even a CB radio. Did I mention what year I graduated high school? :icon17: |
Back in my day, it was how nice a saddle I could get for my horse.

I was 13 yrs old when i first thought about what looked cool in mods. That was the middle 80's.
I thought corolla's with 13" fat tires and slammed were kool. lol (drove my first stick in one) I thought BMW 3 series convertibles with the Ferrari Testarossa Body kit were the hottest thing since sliced bread. :roflpuke2: I thought mirror Tint was the shyt. :ugh2: The 80's, Birth of the body-colored rice wing on anything with wheels and I was in love.:inoutroflpuke: Thank god by the time i had my first ride @ 17, my tastes drastically changed. |
The worst thing I did was put Altezza tails on my car in HS. They didn't last long, as I took them off about five or so months later.
Not that it was bad, a few compliments from some of the girls in class. I just wised up and said Altezza's were ricer. After that, I didn't do much - got an SRT4, put Stage 2 on it (injectors, WGA, and PCM) and full 3" turbo-back catless, non-resonated exhaust (sounded beastly, but freeway drone sucked) on it and tracked it at the local strips. Nothing ricer-ish about it - I even took the stupid wing off of it (OEM) a month into ownership. |

Never have been into stereos because most cars I have owned came with decent oem setups (besides FI exhaust is my stereo)
I think underglow was cool, it just was overdone by the ricer car, just like car decals, body kits, altezza lights. Originally all of the aboce was used on nicer cars that were more tastefully done (supra, m3, 300ZX, RX-7, skyline, etc.), but then people started putting them on old rusty fox body mustangs, and rusting civics with fake wheels, which means every kid had that. |
