EVO-R vs OEM Rear Fog
Which one matches the tail lights more closely, in brightness and looks?
If someone has run both, or maybe seen both in person and can chime in. Like, if you run it ON with tail lights ON, and run it brighter with brakes depressed, which fog matches the tail lights better? Assuming this is how it'll behave if you wire it to tail/brake lights. Tapatalk2 ... |

Depending on how you wire it, the oem light will definitely brighter than the evo r led. But i think the evo r fot light matches our led tails better.
Now i am not sure if you can wire evo r's fog light to the break and tail lights. I needed to buy a dfferent bulb for that function (oem light) |

Ok thanks for the confirmation. From all the threads I read it seemed like evo-r fog is a better match to the tails, just want to be sure.
Time to read some more to see how to get it to behave like another tail/brake light. Tapatalk2 ... |

With a little modification to a 7443 bulb, the oem is a perfect match.
The 7440 is 25 watts and is too bright. The outer contacts on a 7443 are also too bright as that's the 25watt brake light on many cars. Bend the outer red marked contacts back and forth until they break off. Bend the inner green contacts over to where the outer contacts used to be. Voila, a 5 watt 7440 that matches the tails. Of course this way it doesn't get brighter when the brakes are applied. Last edited by Ubetit; 04-04-2013 at 08:47 PM. |

It would be pretty easy to wire the EVO-R to the tail lights. You could wire the blink function to brakes. I posted a DIY awhile back, although I used switch power for the solid on and tied the blink function to the reverse lights. Still, the wires for the tail lights and brake lights are in the same harness.
I agree with Wonka, the EVO-R LEDs are not that bright. Practically invisible in daylight.

Why would you want a dim fog light? It's considered a safety item for fog as it's very bright and visible through dense fog. Trying to mimic it would be to go brighter. Making it dim makes it appear, maybe just to me, that the attempt was made with a cheap alternative to the real deal.
Now, doing something different with that spot has a different effect. So, if you have it strobe/flash like a formula brake and never stay solid, that would be cool and no longer a 'fog' light.

I don't think a fog, modified to match the tail lights in brightness tends towards the cheapness of the plastic plate. An apple doesn't tend towards an orange. It's apple and oranges. Tapatalk2 ... |

I have the Smoked EVO-R fog light on my Black Z so it blends in until the light is on. No ugly red butthole. It is Plenty bright at night when it's blinking. I have it wired to come on with my headlights and blink on braking. Love it.
As for blending with OEMs, I think the LEDs match the LED taillights better than an OEM bulb, but that's just me.
