You guys aren't making this easy....every other post tells me to go in the opposite direction. I do love the look of the nismo.

Sorry for being a devils advocate.
Yes its costly to maintain a Porsche but they are bullet proof cars. Man if you have seen them run the 24 hrs LeMans and 12hrs at Sebring you'll get amazed how this cars can take the beating. Don't know if any of the 911's Gt3 DNF. If i can afford a 911 now I'll jump on it like a heart beat. But that's me. You know what's best for you. Either way they are good cars to have. See my car knocking on Heavens doors??? hahaha |

911s really aren't that expensive to maintain. I know several porsche mechanics and not only is the maintenance comparable to most other cars, but they often don't need a lot of work since they're so well engineered.
I'd take the 911! Nismos are great, but 911s are a polished Z with better road feel.

A 911 late 90's is a good looking car. The Nismo is newer and with power as well. Go with whichever makes you happy. I love the Nismo, never had an opportunity to own a late model Porsche, so I can't say anything about them but they look good as well. Follow your dreams, be happy and don't spend so much in repairs.

I have worked here in sales for almost 4 years now and there is nothing close to the feel or character you get in a 911! It's hard to drive these every day and not own one ![]()

First of all, what model 911?
1. Test drive both. You may find that the Nismo is just a bit rough for you as a DD. Power aside, you'll almost certainly find the 911 to be a smoother ride that makes you love it. It'll be supple and happy to do whatever. Also, that engine behind your ears? Yeah, nice. 2. If you find the right 911 at a good price in good condition and with all the options you really want, it's hard to say don't jump on that chance. 3. As someone said, the Nismo isn't going anywhere. You could always re-flip the Porsche probably easier than the Nismo. (Just a guess on my part, not an experience.) For me, personally, I'd rather get what I truly want. If I truly wanted the 911 as a dream and have the chance, if I choose the Nismo, I'll always wish I had jumped on that chance for the 911. Just like the girl back in school... You may find that you made the wrong decision and should have done the Nismo, but at least you'll have satisfied your dream and you won't really feel that bad about the decision. |

I have always wanted a 2001 911 Turbo. I make the money. I could own one. But I bought a Z. Why? Because a car is what you make it. I don't need or want a Porsche to take spirited runs through the woods. The Z, after only a couple of easy mods will do everything I want it too and then some. It will be difficult to even push it to its limit outside of the track. And I'm not even talking a Nismo. Just a plain 'ole touring base model. And hell, I've met guys that gave up far more expensive cars to get into a Z and never looked back. Don't think of it as if you owned a Z, it wouldn't be expensive enough or have the name stamped on it that would make you proud to own it. And I think that is the part that gets everyone.
In the end, it is what tugs at you more. If you have the means to own either, I would choose what draws you more. If not, everytime you pass one you'll say "Damn, I almost bought that!" Then you'll think of some BS reason to backup your decision to own one or the other that will make you sleep better at night. I say get the Z. The Japanese can make some serious sports cars. ![]() ![]() Good luck with your decision. Hope whatever you get you will be proud and not look back. |
