Ouch, didn't know the OP was 19. That means an insurance payment almost as much as the car payment every month not to mention a very precarious financial position. One mistake like being late on a payment, getting a speeding ticket or losing a job could be disastrous.

This is not intended as a flame, and certainly cars.com is not the end-all-be-all in terms of pricing new cars...

But it looks like the car is over 30k at invoice cost, let alone delivery, etc., and that's for the very base model with no frills whatsoever.

Asking a dealer to come down 3k off of invoice isn't impossible, but it's ambitious.

And the used market is constantly a roll of the dice if you're selective in the least.

As DE said, though, you can shop around and get a loan from a bank before purchasing any car, private sale or not.

Good luck with the search!

unless im misinformed and there are ways of doing this

Penfed and other credit unions, banks, etc. will cut you a blank check (usually limited to 25k) to pay for a private sale used car. It's all on the autoloan section of the respective websites.

If you're having this much trouble just buying the car then you should just stop. Gas, tires, insurance, etc. are all going to kill you. I'm assuming you work a wage job because I remember reading you make money teaching tennis or something. What happens if you get sick for a few weeks at a time where you can't work? Missing a payment isn't an option.

Buying the car is just the beginning. The cost of ownership is another 4 or 5k a year (depending on how much you drive) ONTOP of your monthly payment.

Ya, if thats truly the case then I don't think the Z is the best car for you based on your situation.

Sometimes we want what we can't have, no fault of the car, it just may not be in the cards. Of you'll have to do what some others will do to get in one, go older. Might have to consider 09's.

As mentioned above, I'm sure you can find one in well kept condition somewhere, but you'll have to break into that 09' territory. At 19 a '09 370Z is not a bad thing.

I think the OP is 22 with 13-15k down payment plus trade in.

If anybody makes that much/little (20-25k) they most definitely shouldn't be in a car that is starting at more than their income.

Not a bad plan

Few years ago I wanted a 350Z bad, it just wasn't in the cards, couple years later, lucked out even better getting a 370Z

You have to go for what you want most of the time but within reason...if u think u might put yourself in a bad spot, you probably will.

Good luck!

Go to Capital One for your loan and search the US and find your car in another state like I did. Although, I wasn't looking for that price range (mine was a little higher), I ended up flying to NJ from FL and buying my Nismo there.

No, I'm just a motherfúcker when it comes to buying cars... Or almost anything, LOL

I waited a long time to find the right Z at the right price. I kept track of what lots had used ones and how long they had them. I ended up with a certified 2011 base with sport package with 27000 miles for $28000 with 0.5% interest. It had been on their lot for almost 5 months. Just be patient and look for ones that the dealer has had for a while, they are more likely to come down. Also don't contact them and let them know beforehand your really interested, then they think they can get more out of you.

The best deals i've ever seen have always been on this forum. You should really consider buying here as most of the people on here are enthusiast and take really good care of our rides. With that being said, you should also look at a 2009 - 2010 model if you are concerned about the price.

Heck, consider a 350z if you are 22 and strapped for cash and then trade up to a 2014. Better yet, save some more coin and get the next release of Z .

Just my two cents.

There will always be delicious cars available to you. But if you go big now and life just doesn't roll your way, you could spend a decade digging out of the hole. And those are very fine years to live up. :)

GL in the search, but definitely be ready to scale it back and still be happy with your place. You have many, many years ahead.
