Really stupid question about Nissan Ester Oil...
Maybe it's because it's late but I've been searching the forum and found this. Ester Oil has suspended metallic nano-particles added to their formula to help properly lubricate the Diamond-Like Coating (DLC) on the VVEL parts. Here's my stupid question. Would a magnetic oil drain plug have any effect on these metallic nano-particles?

I really don't think it would, and they recommend ester oil but it's not required, ill be using Amsoil, a lot of people use redline as well. Hope it helped...

Holy crap, that's the least stupid, "stupid" question I have heard. And one I haven't seen
The biggest thing I know Nissan's Ester Oil has is about 5-10 times as much Molybdenum, which is a metal lubricant. Now Molybdenum is magmatic, but not highly magnetic I doubt you'd actually absorb the Molybdenum from the oil with just a magnetic oil plug. I know people have sent their oil in for analyzation who had the drain plug and their Molybdenum levels were still sky high Just my 2 cents

In addition to what DEpointfiveO said, Heat is the enemy, not the magnetic drain plug. Id worry more about how to keep the car cooler than if my drain plug is hurting my particles. You are thinking too deep, did you inhale before asking this? Try finding your answer at google scholar to see what I mean.

I was being silly. Google Scholar was way over the top with scientific info regarding metallic nanoparticles. Way more than my capacity.

Molybdenum is only paramagnetic, it would take a lot more than a drain plug to capture the "nanoparticles" in a magnetic field. In fact, even if they did get stuck to it for a time, the flow of oil past it during cornering and the like would likely have enough force to dislodge it.
Go for it, I say! |

I have some experience with magnetics, and to affect fluid based metalics I have always observed the need for electro magnets. I don't suppose you're running an electromagnetic oil drain plug? Good question though!
