I've noticed a lot of people on here use 75w90 in their differential but my owner's manual says to use 80w90. Any particular reason why? I was about to order

Differential 80w90 vs 75w90
I've noticed a lot of people on here use 75w90 in their differential but my owner's manual says to use 80w90. Any particular reason why? I was about to order some Red Line 75w90 when I noticed this.

I lied, no rhyme or reason... It doesn't matter what you go with, lol

Lol, yeah, I do too, but honestly, who cares about the 75, or 80 part?
It's going to be warm in no time and that's where the 90 kicks in

It has my vote. The difference in viscosity and performance will be negligible. Ie, for all intents and purposes 75W90 and 80W90 are interchangeable. At least for a DD; if you are tracking the car, it might make a little bit of difference.
The type of oil and the additives will make much more difference in performance than a few viscosity points (especially since, as DE.50 points out, once they warm up, they have the same viscosity). YMMV

Same with all other lubes/fluids/tires/&c - if it meets Nissan's specs (for lubes, this is usually an API or other standards organization rating), they can't void the warranty.
