Most of what I've driven is autos, 1 time per car is reasonable but 1x a week, uncouth.

OP, your either new to the car or your trolling. Unless you drive a MT or a bicycle, you should never left it on the street in driving gears. There is no excuses of doing it weekly basis. |

Sounds like trolling to me. I think the auto's have safe guards against it. Correction. Just tried it but it lets off an alarm if you do so... the alarm should keep you from doing anything horrendously stupid like actually leaving the car.

It's not a bad habit to just set your e-brake. Manual drivers usually have this habit, and it doesn't really hurt in an auto. (Unless you forget to disengage it, but that's your problem.) Thankfully I already do this in my current car, so not worried about it in the Z, despite the lack of a key to grab out.

Can't believe I jumped in here either, but in the manual i believe it says it will activate the braking safety thing if your ebrake is on and you try to go over 5mph

I just realized one thing...well maybe two.
OP, OP OP OP you either just started driving or...or....or...or...you have nothing better to do. We all now by now, you are the only one in a "social mental status who is not at the top level at all... not even close" who leaves the car engaged in gear and walks away from the vehicle. Good luck with that. I hope the car does not runs away from you. It reminds me of one of my ex-wifes. She got out of my vehicle while in neutral and the parking brake was not engaged and in a sloped driveway. That's way she is another of my exe's.

I just realized this thread should've been the most appropriate regret thread among all - "Does any automatic Z owners regret walk out their car in Drive or Reverse???" I am glad OP didn't open another "Car won't start" thread(because it's in drive gear) to confuse us with the steering lock failure issue. |

Some of you "Mr. perfect in life" have jokes. No, i am not a new driver. Yes i drove manual cars before and motorcycles. No, the car doesn't run away by itself bc the engine is off. Yes, Fl is flat mostly so the car doesn't move even left in gear. Yes, it happens mostly on hectic days from office to office.... hope i answered everything.
I understand this is a forum. But hey, if it helps to boost your self esteems or cover your insecurities by being the butt of the joke...glad i can help |

I think what stops most people from doing this is when you apply the brakes to stop the car, it's reflex to put it in park so it doesn't start moving again, not shutting the car off to achieve this and leaving it in D. Years of driving manual will condition you the other way.
