Would you do it? From a GTR to a Z??

Hi,

New to this Z forum here so I have much reading and search to do about the Z cars.

However, I have a question here.....Just wondering if you would do it?

Would you replace a GTR with a Z??

Will I be disappointed if I do??

TIA

FairladyZ 03-11-2013 03:17 PM

Different beast but you will be disappointed.

It's like me jumping from my z to a frs I bet lol

theDreamer 03-11-2013 03:19 PM

Depends on what you want.
Why are you considering the trade?

Its probably a lot more then that. I would venture to say its like jumping from a Z to a 89 honda CRX. GTR's supercar value and performance is well above that of a Z.

JARblue 03-11-2013 03:25 PM

:iagree: other than financial reasons, I cannot think of a legitimate reason to downgrade to a Z from a GT-R

kenchan 03-11-2013 03:26 PM

Manual transmission

the only reason why i did not get the GT-R. my area only has boring straight roads.

Wanna trade?
I'm in SoCal

Actually, if you want, message me and I'll let you take my car on a drive to see how you like it and to get a feel for it

I've driven a highly modded GTR once and it was stupid fast, but when the owner out it back to stock (leased it), the AWD disconnected you from the driving a bit... In any case, if I could afford a GTR, I'd keep a GTR

ZMan8 03-11-2013 03:31 PM

There was an article published that said a z is more fun than a gtr because the driver feels like he is connected to the road, while in a gtr the driver is connected to a computer.

To some z=sports car
Gtr=playstation

With that said, to op I think you will miss the power too much. As fun and raw as a 6mt z is a gtr is just too large of a step up from it.

Mitco39 03-11-2013 03:32 PM

If you can afford this,

https://encrypted-tbn2.gstatic.com/i...GDwDo0VuY5FRJw

Would you settle for this?

Not saying the Z is that bad, but the idea is the same. haha

FairladyZ 03-11-2013 03:34 PM

I'll trade you for a day if you want to see for yourself. ;-)

Forum Member Nitrouz's take HERE.

PK_GTR 03-11-2013 04:10 PM

Wow! 13 replies in less than 20 minutes....you guys are quick (or should I add quick just like your Z's ) I would never get this quick response from the folks on F-Chat for sure....

But let's stay focused here on my original question.

No, my finances are just fine the way they are....thank you for all your concerns. ;)

My GTR is bone stock with only HKS midpipe and LegaMax exhaust as performance mod wise. After 3 years of trouble free driving (as a dd) car is going back to dealer at lease end. I can just buy the car from dealer at residual or less (with some negotiation, of course) and just keep driving it until R36 comes out but feel the car is getting a little long on tooth. So I'm thinking of returning the GTR and just get a "gap" vehicle to hold me until R36 is here.

I really like the exterior styling of the 370Z but only if Nissan would do a Z-R just like what they did to the Juke-R then my problem would be solved in an instant. But, hey, one can only dream...right?

So, from what I get from most of you responded so far is that a stock Z will most likely be a disappointment. Then, what about a Z with Stillen's new supercharger kit?? Would that ease the pain a little??

Sales@AAMComp 03-11-2013 04:11 PM

local forum member VAUROS went from a GT-R (a couple too I think) to a Nismo Z, but sure his feelings on this but I would hit him up for real world feedback

tjlazer 03-11-2013 04:20 PM

In your position I would do it! Why not? Then you can get the R36. That way you can get a taste of the Z. A modded Z NA is really good. Bone stock, not so much.

Its funny you say that. I prefer the Z styling to the GTR. Obviously id like the 500+ hp AWD  ....but the Z body.

My take: performance wise you're going to get bored fast. Other than that, I dont see any problems if you're just using it as a hold over. :twocents:

A 370Z + Forced Induction sounds like a great filler car, though nothing like the GT-R in terms of bang for the buck; brand new will run $50Kish I would imagine with mods. Also, if it's your DD, there's downtime to consider for the mod installs.

Go test drive a Z first opportunity if you haven't already. If you enjoy :driving: I think you'll find the handling is great fun and has even more potential. Then imagine it with almost as much power as your GT-R (500ish) :D Plus the Z looks better :stirthepot: :icon17:

kenchan 03-11-2013 04:42 PM

or keep the 6MT 370Z stock and learn how to drive.

Bking 03-11-2013 05:32 PM

I wouldn't. I don't know how much your residual is but getting a new Z and adding force induction (plus cosmetic mods) to it is not cheap. Can you re-lease the GT-R? That would be the best solution imo.

...and this: Does anyone know how it feels!! is another reason I gave up my 993Turbo seven years ago. :icon17: Just don't want to deal with clutch in traffic.

I would like to get a 370Z Touring with Sport and Nav and just add a Stillen supercharger kit and no exterior mods (keeping it looking stock for the unsuspected...:D). I don't want to lease another R35...just something different but fun to hold me till R36.

Now, has anyone here done a 7sp AT with Stillen supercharger??

It's been done, I'm in line for a twin turbo kit... To make it TRULY work you'd need a transmission cooler and most likely GTM's valve bodies, and MAYBE their heat treated flex plate

Again, PM me your number, I'll shoot you a text and you're more than welcome to take my car out
It's a 7AT, sport, touring, with Nav (the nav is much better now in a '13, but mine still does the job)

What made you decide on TT instead of SC?

I have much to read up on GTM stuff....

Thanks very much for your offer....that's real nice and trusting of someone to a complete stranger.:tiphat:

If that's the case, you should've gotten a slightly used 997 GT3 lol

Welllllll... Stillen lies about numbers, they have kinda shitty customer... They have no customer service...
And I'm just the first person to have put my name in for Fast Intentions' TT kit.

It's cheaper to go S/C, but when you're getting "special intro pricing" (LOL)
It'll hopefully be about the same

Oh... And since I have insurance, I really don't care, if you'd like, pay the deductible and total the SOB, I will be SOOOOOO happy!

Text me if you'd like to go on that joy ride: (310)eight nine three-4207

You'll get more power out of the TT over the SC which is a big draw for most going FI. The big draw for the Stillen SC is that it's 50state legal. For people like myself, this is a huge reason to get the Stillen as I've had my share of smog headaches living in Cali and just want enough punch to push me back in my seat. It's also a little bit cheaper.

If you want something comparable to hold you over and cost isn't the issue, why not step into a Vette? The new C7 looks to be amazing and has a manual transmission if that's what you're after. Or a Z06 which is at the same level as the GTR. Or are you super loyal to the Nissan brand?

A stage 1 sc kit is only like 10 hp less than a stage 1 tt kit..... for a grand less take the sc.... but if you wanna build on it and get more and more boost ya tt but he wants a filler car.... get the GTM SC kit you'll make 420-450 whp stage 1 and your used to 490-500whp won't be much off... or get the stage 2 and make about the same....

I'd keep the GTR. But if you have to trade for a 370z, get a 6mt and boost it.

Half true....traffic here is semi-mad but somewhat manageable.

But OP is just plain LAZY and too much used to shifting with his fingers for all his cars :D

Kingbaby 03-12-2013 01:11 AM

don't get a Z

Lol. Didn't see there is page 2 and page 3 till I hit the submit button. So never mind.

cv129 03-12-2013 09:17 AM

Op needs to test drive an auto Z, see if he likes the tranny first, very different than the GTR one.

Hey OP, if finance isn't a big deal, you want new and different experience, want auto box, what made you pick a 370z over a used 911 or M3?

I agree. Especially considering the price of making the 7AT hp friendly.

kenchan 03-12-2013 09:44 AM

skip the Z, get a mustang 5.0!

That's my default response to anyone buying a car.
