2009 and early 2010's have issues with Steering wheel lock. It's an easy fix by pulling the fuse, or cutting the wire coming from the box itself.

Tranny issues only if you can't drive a stick, or are abusive of the clutch. I'd also recommend a touring model, but nix the Nav - for about $150 you can buy a TomTom or Garmin instead of a $2000 adder that you can't update unless you pay yearly for the update.

I personally like the 40th Anniversary car if you can find one in good shape. Avoid anything with cheap mods or lots of poor cosmetic changes and beware of "really great deal" type 370Zs as there is probably a reason. If you can find well kept stock one with its original manuals, floor mats, both key fobs and paperwork you probably found a good car. Check the rear tires too; If they are bald and screaming "help me!" you probably want to avoid the car or take into consideration what it costs to get new ones.

Get a late 2012 model if you can so you won't have the steering lock problem and you will have an oil cooler as well. Generally speaking, the later year models will have less issues. But even if you get a 2009 model it's not end of the world. 370z is a pretty solid car. My 2009 hasn't had any major issues yet. Search the forum for the major problems like steering lock failure or the CSC failure so you will have an idea. Good luck.

Edit: These are the common problems a used(early models) 370z could have. You can start from there.

Question about common problems

Can you expand on the the yearly payment for an update please? Contrary to what you implied, the 10 and 11 are updated under the 2012 version.

My understanding is that to update the map, you have to purchase the CD on a yearly basis, so I elected not to get the NAV. If you really are interested in the NAV System, then I would recommend a quick visit or phone call to the nearest Nissan Dealer and talk to the Parts People about the cost of it. It could be that it might have changed since '011 (year of my Z).

ps: Besdes, my TomTom is portable - it goes along with my Titan or my Altima just as well as my Z.
