I was curious about the BRZ and so one of my sons and I made a trek over to the Subaru dealer to see if we could drive one.

Upon our arrival, we were immediately accosted by a sales person who was very eager to help. No BRZ's were on the lot -- each one they got sold immediately, as he explained. I asked him if there was a chance he could call me when one was available for a test drive and he said "Sure, give me $500.00 to hold one for you". I laughed out loud because I honestly thought he was kidding, but he was serious.

He then went on to regale me with the BRZ's available AWD. I looked askance at him and told him they are all RWD. He said "No, they are not, some are AWD." We turned around and went back to my car.
I'll give him $500, but ask him to ONLY get me an AWD to test, if he cannot bring in a AWD for any reason, he gives you that $500 PLUS another $500 for wasting your time. See will he take the deal.

350z was consuming oil. Dealer informs me "one quart of oil every thousand miles is normal for this car".

I ask "so, in 5k miles, it's normal for the engine to be completely dry and sieze?"

i just got a stupid look

Another dealer laughed about that story and replaced the short block. Lesson learned: don't waste your time at dealers that obviously don't want to help you fix a problem. Move on and let NNA know. Got a gift card from NNA for $150 bucks for the problem. Yey.

My friend told me a similar story to the ^.

He used to own an E46 M3, the first production batch and they also have burning engine oil issue thus BMW actually granted an extended oil change and free engine oil refill up to certain mileage..

One day he was at the service department having his oil change done...

Friend: So this car has burning oil issue or something else?
SA: Yes, we have to refill the engine oil every certain period.
Friend: Is it normal for a car that burns engine oil?
SA: Well, because it's a RACE CAR engine, that's why it burns oil!!
Friend:.................

Bought my Z in October of last year so I was at the dealer lot and they had a couple of 2012s and a couple of 2013s.

The salesman starts off his pitch with how great the new Altimas are getting the 38 mpg Hwy. Hey then goes on to state that when they incorporate all the new "Altima" technology on the 2014 Z, it will probably get about 30 mpg Hwy.

I was actually dumbfounded in trying to figure out his logic ( Are you telling me I should NOT buy a car from you today and wait a year for a 2014 Z that I am 99.99% certain will NOT get 30mpg?)

Bought the Z from another dealer a couple of weeks later.

I think I've posted this before. While shopping for the Z, the sales guy tried to pitch an Altima coupe to me. His exact words were: "They are the same car, the Altima is just cheaper."

I don't know what the solution is, the higher the price of an item, the more room there is for differences in prices, so it becomes a haggling game. And set pricing didn't seem to work for that car company I can't even remember the name of now.

I don't mind a salesperson trying to upsell - that's their job. It's when they start lying that I get pissed and walk off. Luckily, there are some honest ones out there. When you find one, make sure you return the favor and treat them right.
Totally......

First of all this is all just my opinion and based on nothing but my own crazy thinking. So Not that selling cars is a bad profession but if someone has high Aptitude and drive they don't end up spelling cars. Also, I think the turn around or revolving door employment of the auto sales industry may have lot of green sales staff. Also, these people don't sell a lot of Z. They sell more compacts and minivans. If you asked what rims come on a minivan they might know. And one more thing, I think they get paid only if they sell a car so mostly they work there part time andhave with another job. So on their day off or free time they try to make some money. Car sales people probably enjoy the casino because a lot of its luck, if someone wants a car there rarely need much sales staff Convincing. Wrote this on the fly so I will zero F's about grammar, ect.

The sales person must have product knowledge regardless, because they have to know what are they selling.

That's the minimum requirement.

If you don't know the product, fine, go grab some info and read, but don't throw some BS to the customers cos it will make yourself look even more stupid.

They have 8 hours on their desk everyday, if they just use 30min a day to learn the products, they should know everything inside out in 2 weeks time.

Sorry but there's no excuse for them in this case.

An on-topic Seinfeld moment:

JERRY: Did you two break up?

PUDDY: (While punching up numbers on a calculator) That chick’s whacked. We’re history. (Back to the transaction) I just left out a couple of things: uh, rust-proofing…

JERRY: "Rust-proofing"?

PUDDY: (Reading off what he’s adding up on the calculator) Transport charge, storage surcharge, additional overcharge, finder’s fee…

JERRY: "Finder’s fee"? It was on the lot!

PUDDY: Yeah, that’s right. (Continues reading off) Uh, floor mats, keys…

JERRY: “Keys”?!

PUDDY: How ya gonna start it?

I remember when i bought my 07 civic SI back in 2006. I wasnt liking their numbers so i was ready to walk out... then the sales manager sat down with me and said "what can I do to get you in the SI? I can throw in a free spoiler for you!" I looked at him with the dumbest look and said "the SI comes with a spoiler standard..." That shut him up real quick haha

I work in service, and have crazy experiences with saleman everyday. The ones who make it a career learn the products and are successfully, that is abot 30% of the salesforce. The rest are the revolving door, they use the job as a stepping stone so they have employment, they do not care about you or the car, they care about $$. These are the ones that come to service to ask stupid question about oil, tires features etc, tell people lies etc... its ashame really...I hear 5-6 times a day "My salesman told me" the rest does not matter because whatever followed that line is a lie, as I type this I just delt with it, we have coupons we give new car buyers for first oil change for 15.95(it was free until honda switch to 0w-20 oil, its dang expensive) its clearly stated on the coupon, but his salesman told him it was free...imagine that, and that salesman quit last week. The sales manager picked up the tab, but come on!
In service we are required to take training modules on all the new cars, and still we do not know everything. Image the sales guys have 8-10 models, and many trim levels do not forget, I have cars coming in from 20 years plus and we are expected to know all the features and techincal aspects of 20+ years of cars...Its also amazing when you go to buy car AND TELL THEM YOU WORK AT A DEALER and they start their shenanigians...I had to walk out of a place I drove 3 hours to get to because they tried to scam me.

I was forced to stand outside on a customer parking spot and "welcome" the customer. I hated it. I felt pressured, the customer feels pressured, and I was sweaty all day. This is in Vegas mind you. My sales manager was an @ss. He would continually berate us every morning with insults except his favorite two. Short Vietnamese dude with a physically large head. "You don't sell car, you nothing but a broke d1ck"
