How long do you let your car warm up?

It would have been the question if id had not let it on for more time


So this was my issue, for the most part for some folks it takes 5-8 minutes. Mines took almost 15 minutes to register which finally did

Just following some standard forum ways. Better to reply on graves than create new ones. Just deal with the smell, it'll be fine


The engine is not in a car btw folks. It's on a stand running G37 wiring communicating with Z ecu and gauges. Since I barely have a loads on this it does take a loooong time for oil temps to register in the tripple meter while is inside a garage.

I never drive my car in the winter.

Spring and summer temps I stick by this rule: Start car, let it run for one min, drive under 2500 rpm until car warms up and I'm good to go.

Really, sitting there idling does no good, it's better to slowly drive your car until it gets to temps.

I wait for the initial drop from ~1500rpm to ~1200rpm and then try to keep it under ~4000 until oil temp shows 150*. Don't know if that's good, bad, or indifferent but that's what I do...lol.

i start it up then aim a heat gun at the oil pan until temps hit 220.

You guys are doing it wrong. My one neighbor with the semi uses a big pan full of BBQ charcoal biscuits under the motor at night. After the charcoal burns out. He'll throw the cold ashes in the garden the next day.
