Same here. My gauge says 16.7mpg. I think i see 13/14mpg city and 19 highway.
If anyone is getting over 20mpg's combined? You wasted money on a sports car cuz that poor baby sees no action.

Thread title advice to the general public... Fill at Five. You'll destroy your fuel pump early causing another problem and blaming Nissan for it.

My wife got 21 mpg for the first 18 months commuting about 15-20 miles per day all highway (with me romping on it during the weekends). Since Sept 2012, I have knocked that lifetime avg down to 18.5

I guess I'll be ready when it happens, but I still don't understand how the fuel pump is affected by how much gas I have in the car (I run it to '--- miles left' pretty much every tank). And if I have to leave several gallons of gas in the car to keep the fuel pump from failing, how is that not a poor design on Nissan's part and ergo their fault? You're damn right if it fails within my warranty period I'm going to blame them. I should be able to drive my car until it's almost out of gas, and almost is not 'I could have driven another 100 miles'

Hey knock yourself out. Just advice to save you guys trouble. Take it or leave it. The fuel pump potential issue is on ALL cars, not just nissan.

Fuel pumps, by design, are located in the tank and the fuel is the only thing that's cooling it (like a radiator) from overheating and burning out. That's how fuel pumps are in general. If your running on fumes, the fuel pump will be running hotter = shorter life. I don't know how Nissan quality is but I ran my old '92 Integra till the E light was on all the time. No problems. I personally try to fill when it's down to 2-3 lights

I fill at 2 dots and my last 5 tanks have all been over 20.6 MPG.

Not a Hugh deal. Personal preference. I wouldn't run my oil low either.

From what little I've read about modern fuel pumps, as long as you're pumping liquid, you're OK. When it gets to the point where you are not pumping, the car shuts down anyway.

Unless you habitually run out of fuel, it shouldn't be a problem. But I'm no expert. YMMV.
I haven't either (on both accounts)

That's what I was thinking, glad to hear someone else say it. I'll do a little more research on my own when I have some time. Only run out of gas one time over 10 years ago, and that's all it took... and, of course, it wasn't in the Z.

I would be more concerned about the oil than gas. If I ever ran out of gas, it would simply be an inconvenience to me. Running low on oil can potentially damage the engine. Obviously there are different reasons for different concerns in daily vs track

Instead of dots, call them balls. Then try to explain to your significant other why you need to stop for gas. "Uh, I have 3 balls"

Side note, but since I purchased used I don't know the answer. Anyone know what the sticker stated annual fuel costs would be?

I call it city driving because I generally avoid the highways, but there's a fair amount of highway driving involved in my daily route (or at the very least 60 mph frontage road driving).
