Damn Dealership! bad experience

So I took my car in for an oil change (only because they're free). Normally, they're fine, did the job and that's it. This time, they had my car for over an hour and a half...THEN...when i got in my car, my AC was blasting, my synchrorev match was on, there were 3 more miles on my car, AND my oil temps were past 220. SO, that sucks. if you are only supposed to drive around the corner to the lift, I do not see how 3 miles could have been put on the car...1-2 miles MAYBE! sychro...not ur car, dont be pushing buttons, but even thats whatever. but the oil temps being so high...WTF. if the car was sitting for an hr, they should have been in the 100's. I didnt say anything because i just didnt feel like getting back and making a big thing. what should i do...if anything? I'm not super pissed, just upset.:shakes head:

You should have brought it to the service managers attention immediately.

This^, someone took a joyride. Thats why I pay for peace of mind by doing it myself. You should let us know the dealership so we can stay away.

CCCLXXZ 07-15-2009 03:44 PM

Based on your other post, I would recommend to find a new dealer in your area... there are like 8 within 20 miles of my home. I went to several before deciding which to purchase from and which to service at.

Let them know!
If you want things done, you gotta do it yourself!

Scott@FontanaNissan 07-15-2009 03:49 PM

Dealerships can't fix a problem if they don't know it exists. Next time speak up, we need to know when this sort of thing happens so we can make sure it doesn't happen again!

gatorfast 07-15-2009 04:01 PM

I think you are kind of over-reacting.

1. Its hot as hell in Florida. Virtually every time I get my car back from an oil change the ac is blasting.
2. Oil temp was prob hot because they did a short road test (hence the 3 miles).

As far as the synchro rev engaged, yea thats annoying but whatever. Which dealership was this?

xiven 07-15-2009 04:02 PM

why would they need to do a road test for an oil change? :shakes head:

Diversion 07-15-2009 04:42 PM

I'd have raised hell.. I always make note of my mileage when I drop my car off anywhere. Since there no possible way to reverse the damage of being walked all over by joy-riding your car.. Perhaps they can give you free Ester oil changes or Synthetic changes without the additional cost.

There's no road test required for oil changes, especially 3 mile tests. They will drive a car around a dealership to get a tire sensor light cleared if one came up due to low tires.

No way. Were talking oil that is at most 90 degrees ambient when they put it in! And you only need to turn it on to make sure theres no leaks, no "road test". What the hell would they test for on the open road? Are they looking in the rearview for an oil slick? Even when its hot outside the oil temp doesnt get that hot in 3 miles unless I am getting on it.

You got exactly what you paid for. Want a different outcome? Do it yourself..

My dealer also gave ne free oil changes for life. It is highly unlikely that he'll ever see me on his doorstep to collect..

Ummmmm...He should be glad his dealer QC'd the work. Too many don't and you won't find out until you've dumped 5 qts of oil on the road 2 miles from the dealership.. Gimme a break!

CrownR426 07-15-2009 05:22 PM

Well the OP is also a 2010 GTR Owner!
They should've treated him as a king at that Nissan Dealership.

cossie1600 07-15-2009 05:26 PM

It's Nissan, they treat everyone like they owe them. Their customer service is non-existence

quality control is whether you got 5 quarts is counting your empty oil containers.

I understand certain things would require driving but not a normal oil change.

Depends on how competent (or incompetent) the oil changers are...;)

OnCallZ 07-15-2009 06:50 PM

You should have spoke up, no reason to get the temp up to 220 + 3 miles, like someone else mentioned - the only test that was needed - was to turn the car on and make sure there were no oil leaks, that's it. Three miles may not seem like much, but our rear tires aren't exactly cheap to replace, who knows what they did with your car - a quick burnout, maybe a little parking lot drift etc...

I had a similar experience at the bmw dealership a few years back, brought my 645ci for maintenance and I made sure to record the mileage, got the car back with 11 miles, engine bay with oil spills and to top it all off a small chip on the windshield. Long story short I went all the way to the top with that incident. /rant

Free oil change Experience on Nissan

+1.

Yep; numeous times I "have been there, done that" with many new car promos/sales incentives.

My free oil change took 3 hours with a appointment!!! Additionally, they could not service the warrently issues (creaking drivers seat, rear axle rubbing noise) that I made the appointment for!! I took it to another Nissan dealer that day and they fixed the rear axle rubbing noise... Rear axle noise was due to rust between the rear axle bearings and the brake housing. I guess my Z was on the slow boat from Japan plus it sat outside and the Nissan dealership for approx. 2 months prior to purchase that I was aware of.

The driver seat creaking is noted awaiting (hopefully) Nissan TSB (Nissan is aware of it). Thus, if your seats creak while cornering, contact your local Nissan dealership to add your Z to the list).

westpak 07-15-2009 07:17 PM

wow I would have gone apeshit for sure, if this is Royal Palm Nissan I understand

KillerBee370 07-15-2009 07:23 PM

1. Road test for an oil change? WTF?
2. OP.. grow a pair :nutswinger: You, my friend are extremely passive. Next time, handle that sh!t right quick.
3. This is NOT what he paid for... proper service is expected no matter the circumstance. It ain't EZ Lube. (EZ Lube doesn't do road tests either btw)

ssqpolo 07-15-2009 07:24 PM

i will do it myself soon enough, but for right now i have the service plan that includes 8 oil changes + 1 set of tires n brake pads from nissan. and going to a nissan dealership should be the proper thing to do for servicing your car. I should have brought it to the manager's attention immediately, but even he is a ****. i have bought two cars from him now, and well he's a ****. However, the next day (tomorrow) i always get a phone call to ask how the experience was. i will definitely bring it to their attention. not much to do. like i said, i was not super pissed, just upset. ALSO, i did bring to attnetion the fact that my tach stuck at 3k rpms sometimes, so they were fully aware. but hey, maybe thats why they took it for the drive, not that they needed to, but im trying to give them the benefit of the doubt now that i have cooled down.
As far as them treating me like a king for buying the GTR...they dont lol. Typically I have had great experiences at this dealership (- the sales manager and this one particular service) so I do not want to put them on blast. but self-done oil changes will be coming soon! thanks for all the input.
one last thing gator: ya i know waht the temps are like here in FL. sitting for an hr dramatically lowers the oil temps. and even so, i dropped it off at 170 (after driving for about 15 mins). so the oil temps shouldnt have been above that. 220 means driving hard.
and as far as getting what i paid for, well i said free, but technically it was packaged with my car, so I did actually pay properly for the service. this is no excuse.

^^+1. wtf was my "appointment" for?

OnCallZ 07-15-2009 07:30 PM

Well even if you did bring the car with 170F oil they usually wait for the car to cool down and then go and change the oil.

SpawnAeroJohn 07-15-2009 07:33 PM

Why would they test drive something they have driven probobly dozens of times before? Its like test driving your moms car for the fun of it.

ssqpolo 07-15-2009 09:39 PM

^^ i know right. they still have the same 10 Zs sitting in the lot since forever. so i didnt think it was super cool to drive my Z around. maybe they like the sound of my test pipes lol. if it was the GTR, i could understand why they would want to drive it. when i pulled in for the 1k POS, every mechanic came out to gawk at it. (If i saw more than a mile on that car...i would have flipped a sh**).
