At a red light - someone lightly rolls into the back of my 370

So we both pull over into a parking lot, I get out, and inspect.........nothing, no damage, nada. Sorta surprised given how it sounded.

However, I was thinking about these sliders(compression sliders/shock absorbers) that are underneath the car, that allow leeway(sp?) and flexibility for the bumper. If it turns out that they were pushed in a little bit, do those have to be replaced? The person lightly rolled into the back of my car, .5 to 1mph, they admitted their brakes were faulty...

I have the individuals phone #, license plate, and name. Just in case.

They don't use compression absorbers anymore. Most cars use a crumple bracket that deforms on impact and serves as a first line of defense against deforemation of the unibody. These brackets need to be replaced to restore proper bumper alignment as well as provide protection against future impacts.

Dave

you mean styrofoam?

You're probably fine.

If you want to be 100% sure, pull the bumper (or have it pulled) to insure no broken clips, crushed styrofoam, etc.

Little bumps like that rarely amount to anything in terms of damage.

You might also check the bumper carefully for evidence of subtle indentations in the plastic from the other vehicle, but otherwise, I wouldn't worry.

Styrofoam is often used along with the deformable brackets - but I believe the primary purpose for the styrofoam is to give support to the shape of the fascia (less give if you lean on it).

What about insurance # and company? I would take it to a repair shop and report the incident. Better Save than Sorry!

Don't assume it was up to 1 mph and that the absorbers are fine. Most cannot tell until you inspect underneath your bumpers. A nice bump may not always leave an impression on the fascia. Also, you did not take ALL the info needed. Based on what you saw when you stepped out to check the bumper, you probably said to yourself it was ok, that it was not a big deal, and will not make a big stink about someone hitting my Z.
