My poor 370Z...
 

OK, my new Z is my daily drive, I live in Canada, and I knew I'd be driving it in the snow. (And yes, my choice). But it still hurts to see my car like this... Can't wait for the summer!

Fúck it, that makes me happy, you pay for it to drive it!

I feel your pain. I too used to not have a garage and had to leave my cars outside in the snow and rain. How many times did I come out and see people peering into my windows touching the window or paint.
I get it you want to see the car, but dont touch it SEE it. Either way

I finally have a garage and she is not coming out until there is no salt/sand on the road luckily I have a dd.

Just be careful moving/removing that ice on the paint, it can really cause some paint issues which would need correcting.

GL in the snow.

i drove my G in the snow last year, used factory wheels and she did well with LM60's. but the issue with that was i was fine, but car looked like crap with those wheels/tires, and felt like a sitting duck while others slipped and slid, smashed into one another around me. no thanks.

i just take my dd these days.

Props on driving it but hard too see, I feel you there.

I told myself this year I would drive it on absolutely dry cold days but decided to just store it, plus the money I would spend on tires I put towards a lease takever for the winter on a 3rd car. Got that peace of mind too

But again props, I hate RWD in winter also, had a 3 Series as a loaner when the wifes old car was in and man...I was all over the road...did not like it one bit

When you factor in the salt, gravel and other drivers ******* up your paint it isn't really all that exciting.

I feel you bro. I go to school at UWO and I DD my car too :-( Hopefully we have an early spring so we can get our cars detailed and get the summer rims/tires back on soon.

BTW as a side note, have you ever been to that detail shop by wonderland and sarnia near the Acura dealership? great prices, quick, and a good job.

Definitely, because bar a few days/a week or two out of the season it's 60's-80's in Winter.

I'm here in Ohio and can't wait to get back Thursday night to SoCal and enjoy the nice weather. On Friday, my day off, I plan on getting up to Los Olivos, drive to wine country pick up a case or two and drive by the ocean on my way home.

Well, at least you're driving it as a Daily. Thats cool. go out and do some donuts; learn its capabilities. Makes the snow more fun. I got mine to drift sideways and kept it going threw 4th gear. was pretty fun. :)

Its fun I know, but I love RWD + snow tires.

I'm actually really worried about this. I want to purchase a Z but don't know if a good choice as daily driver up here in CT especially in the winter time.

How difficult is it to drive?

Actually, NOT difficult at all. I was surprised for a RWD how good it really is. Predictable, good traction. On Monday, we had knee-deep snow in the side streets. I saw others stuck in the snow. I’ve got the sport edition, so a low skirt on the front. Had to stop in about two feet of snow pushed up by the snowplows at one intersection, almost stuck but just slightly reversed and easily enough power to push through from the standing stop. In normal snow, very easy to control, very predictable, easy to have controlled slides and drifts. Of course, I have snows (see below)

The pic below shows my winter rims (4 Nissan OEM 19” forged Rays. Got them on EBay from some specialist rim dealer in FLA, $1600 for all four, brand new not takeoffs). I got Bridgestone Blizzaks from TireRack (free delivery for rims and tires to a pick up place I use in Port Huron, MI only 50 mins from my house :tup:). The tires are SUPERB. Great grip. Also, 14 days after I picked up the car my wife and I drove down in it to Florida for a cruise – the winters are very good in the dry too.

Well… I did the thread ‘cause it is kinda painful to see the car like this, but it’s really good in the snow. And here’s something I never realized (and this shows just how shallow I really am!) it’s kinda cool driving this in the snow. People are really surprised to see it, and my rims don’t look like winter rims and the tires don’t look like winters and I’m just flying through the snow – a lot of people give me some very surprised looks and I look like I’m a better driver than I am lol It’s fun.

You should have got yourself some winter rims like mine ;) As for other people, yeh, you have to be careful, but there’s jerks in the summer too. I also just take my DD – it just happens to be my Z!

I got one. You should see my summer car! (Just kidding!) As I mentioned above, the Z is good and fun in the snow.

i just dont have time to deal with repairs and extra work to keep my G and Z in prestine condition. having a separate dd for winter/stormy day or just going shopping is just part of life for me. it's more convenient.

if you want to drive your Z in the winter, that's all great. just not for me.

Wow gplw, you have seriously inspired me. I'm going to be moving to CO soon where the winters can get pretty serious. I was originally going to trade my Z for an STi, but I think I'm going to stick with the Z after seeing this. I like to think I'm a good driver in the dirt so hopefully I can use what I've learned in the dirt on the snow.

I do think I will get a splash guard or thin skit plate for the underneathe to protect it from the salt and calcium stuff they put on the ground, as well as Rally Armor mud flaps for the winter (looks awesome on the Z imo) to protect the paint.

Yeh, DON'T DO IT! Obviously, mine is just one opinion. But the 370 is really pretty good in the snow, assuming you have the right rubber. Keep on Z'ing! :driving:

I feel your pain bro. I drive my Z in the winter too. My advice if you dont have a garage to keep it in when your not driving definitely purchase a NOAH car cover. It will do wonders in terms of protecting the car when its stationary. Plus you dont have to clean the snow off the car and deal with ice on the pain either. AS for fun in the snow, in about 5cm of it you can pretty much be a formula drift champ going 20km/h. I certainly do it in my neighbourhood when i get the chance.
