Just wanted to provide an update. I went through montway com for shipping. Selected enclosed trailer and the approximate dates for pickup and delivery. I completed the booking all online. Received a call a few days later from montway inquiring about my travel dates as i was listed as the pick up person on both ends. I told them if the couldn't meet my small window that I could drop the car odd at my dad's and the could pick it up there... That's what they ended up doing. Montway is just a broker and find companies to pick up the cars. Well as I'm on the road I get a call out of the blue from an auto shipper saying they are 25 miles away and need me to bring my car down to them in the next 2 hours. I was a bit caught off guard as montway says the do door to door service. I called montway direct to see what the heck was going on. They apologized about the shipper and said they would take care of everything.

Later that day I got an email from montway saying my car has been assigned to show car services. I looked them up and they seemed like a decent company. The email provided me with the truck drivers name and phone number. From there I dealt directly with show car services' truck driver.

SCS called and set up a time. Unfortunately the truck was too big to make it down the street so they ended up loading the car at the grocery store about half a mile away. The tailgate drops down creating a very low ramp so no scraping. Tailgate lifts up and in the car goes. They cover each car with plastic in case a car above it drips any oil.

Five days later the car made it to me in the exact same condition. I was very pleased with the service. I'll post some photos tonight. If I ever have to ship a car again I'll probably call SCS first to see if they can do it direct.

I went online to a broker site and filled out basic info to ship several vehicles when planning to move to another state. I received calls and emails within minutes competing for my business and it can really range in price. Fuel prices cause the quotes to fluctuate each month so if this is not happening right away make sure to keep shopping around. These days you can read reviews on Yelp for things like this as well which helped me decide on a good company.

I disagree with most of these companies being the same as I found they each have varying routes they take and can range from days to weeks for delivery for the same price. You can also see if there is a company with enclosed carriers for a bit more and avoid a lot of the potential damage. In addition I have seen on Craigslist companies looking to fill a spot on a carrier same day for very cheap as well.

not sure if directed at me but I paid 1099. I checked about a month earlier just to get an idea and it was about 1300 so the price actually went down a bit. $159 is paid up front to montway and the remainder was paid to the truck driver at delivery. The truck driver wants either cash or a money order / cashiers check.

yeah, car went about 1800 miles. I figure that's cheaper than the cost to drive it.

Just got off the phone with Allied Transport. From Killeen TX to Tacoma WA (2115 miles) I was quoted for $1150 for open trailer, $1725 for enclosed. What do you guys think, is the 600 bucks worth it for the enclosed transport?

MJB 03-31-2013 03:47 PM

Do not use Allied/Reliable Transports... If you need a car transported look somewhere else besides this FUBAR company.
