I shopped the GTI against the Z when I bought in 2010. Was a close choice. In the end, I chose fun over practicality, because I had another vehicle to DD (a Mazda6, which I've since replaced with an STI)

My brother has a Golf R. I really like this generation of VW Golfs. Personally, I don't mind the road noise or stiff suspension in the Z, and have driven it for very long drives. I find it very comfortable. But we're not all the same, so I don't doubt your opinions vary.

Best of luck with the GTI.

Sorry to see you part with a car you love especially since the noise is easily reduced to very tolerable levels....No sense in starting that discussion again ..

GTI doesn't seem like the ideal comfort/commuter car, but probably is a bit more comfy than a Z.

I have an 84 GTI and enjoyed it to no end....
