(OK, seriously, I like that idea. The Fit or another of the small, gas friendly cars as a daily driver would work well if you can afford it).

:icon18: professordave- we go back like 10yrs. you and i both share addiction to boxy little cars.

but yah, the current gen Fit is actually enjoyable to drive if one gets the MT and swift springs. dont get the AT. I have both MT and AT and the AT sucksarse. :ugh2:

Man...sorry to hear that. Your new ride is a good car. Owned many a vdubs in my time.

Just FYI, my Z is my DD and commute 1.5 hours each way, 5 days a week. I've had no issues with comfort. Are there seat issues? BTW, the GTI is a lot of fun!

The road noise is too loud for me for the distance everyday not to mention the crappy highway roads I will be traveling. My back hurts after a long drive in my Z. Its just not a comfortabel ride for long distances in my opinion.

I had a GTI in the past and they are a lot of fun as well as a practical car for my situation.

They're nice cars too. I wouldn't be able to trade the Z for that because I am used to the Z power. My room mate has a 4 door 2011 GTI autobahn package 6spd and I've driven it a few times and it rides nice, turbo is fun, but just isn't quick enough for me to be happy long term. I probably would have looked into a used 2009+ WRX. Good luck!

Coming from a S2000 which cruised on the Autobahn @ around 4-5k rpm driving the Zed is pure bliss. Then again we here in Switzerland usually don't cover the same type of distances as you guys do.

Best of luck with your VW, they are nice little Cars.

DLSTR has both a Z and GTI. he gave  to the current GTI as his dd.

I have a ~50 minute commute. 26 miles each way to work. I bought my Z to drive it, so the miles don't bother me too much... yet. But good luck OP, enjoy your new car!

Yes. I think the OP is making a good choice. The GTI can be easily tweaked for power and has alot of good support both OEM and aftermarket. Its a car that has alot of flexibility and fun built in! Thanks for the tip on this post Kenchan!!

Thanks for the postive feedback with the GTI! The Z will be missed greatly.

I own a 11 GTI & a 13 Z with S/P. The GTI is my practical car that can seat up to 5 & has some storage space. I like my GTI, as it's a sporty hatch and is a little smoother (not quieter, see below) than the Z, so not a bad choice for your situation at all.

Not sure if your sale & purchase is a done deal, but if not, you might want to try covering your doors and hatch with dynamat before deciding to sell the Z. I did that to mine and the noise is about the same as the GTI.

For me, the Z always get driven first (higher on the fun factor) unless the situation dictates that I take the GTI. Good luck to you :tiphat:

Thanks but I dont think the Z is a good long distance commuter car overall. The GTI was much quieter and smoother ride compared to the Z when I text drove it but overall the Z still is my 1st choice.
