My new to me Z probably needs new motor

:shakes head:

I just got an 09 Z about 2 weeks ago with 37000 mi. I didn't notice any unusual sounds during test drive and was so excited. I babied it while I was getting use to it.

Over the course of a few days I heard slight ping/knock sound from motor once it got to about 2500 rpm. I checked oil and everything was good so decided to take in asap.

Took it to dealer on Wed night and they said will take a look and gave me a rental. Today I found out it will probably need a new motor because they think the rod is knocking so will have to flip the bill to Nissan for new motor.

Guess I should be happy I'm getting a newer motor at no expense to me but at the same time disappointed can't enjoy my new car.

I did some searching on the site but only came across a post or two with someone that had this issue.

I saw a TSB about unusual engine sounds the dealer will check oil and if still noise car needs new short block.

Free motor? I'd be too happy!

Glad you didn't have to pay for it! Did you get an extended warranty or something? 09/37k miles seems to be JUST outside of the standard warranty. Or did you buy it from the dealer and they're just doing good business? :)

yeah, what kind of warranty do our cars have? My 09 only has 20000 on it, but the warranty was way beyond voided early on, so I never really paid attention to it.

The bumper to bumper warranty is 3 yrs or 36k but the powertrain is around 5 yrs...

Ah yeah, you're right. Forgot that power train was longer

Yes I guess I should be happy. Just disappointed there was an issue with the motor at 37k.

But I guess it will be brand new engine wise after this. I think they said they are actually going to go ahead and put a new motor in. I should have it back by fri.

Well while you’re at it, Just to make sure you really can enjoy your car once you get it back is the steering lock fuse. Or you will be bummed out. Real talk. That one will cost you $1400 out of pocket from what I have heard.

I'll have to read up on the steering lock, I seen the thread but haven't really read through it yet.
