I want to trade touring for sport touring

I really like the touring i have the light colored leather seats which are heated, but i dont have navigation. But thats no big deal. The two things i feel that im really missing out on is 1.Akebono calipers and 2. SyncroRevMatch

After some heavy braking, i realize that the standard (non-sport) calipers are just not good enough for driving hard. In addition, im not a huge fan of the base model/touring wheels.

As for the syncro rev match, i would really like to have this and i was kind of weary about buying my touring because it didnt have it. Now im not saying im a heel to toe master, but i can do it. It would just be nice to have Srm. Our cars where the first to have this technology. Ive looked into upgrading the calipers and getting some new wheels, but i feel that putting that much money into my car would be a waste, considering it already has 60k miles.

So would anyone with the sport model like to chime in and comment on the sport caliper performance and also the syncro rev? It would be a big help in deciding to trade my touring for a sport model. Thanks.

There are many threads on this but...

As far as the brake calipers, under normal aggresive street driving there is Zero fade, Braking is smoother than none sport. If you have to brake aggressively in non sport, there's a hard initial jerk when you hit it, then a final jerk at the end. the initial jerk isn't there, it's like more of a smooth inertia feel instead. you can brake smoothly from much higher speeds to zero. From 100 to 0mph is impressively short for a car i paid 34k for, I would expect that kind of stopping from a car double the price.
On track. some brake fade is exhibited after about 3 laps give or take. this can be fixed by going aftermarket on pads and rotors.

Trading over just to have brakes? You are going to lose money unless you trade for another used car.

SRM-If you know how to heel and toe? You don't need SRM. If you want it done for you? It's great.

For me it was a no brainer. It's an extra ~2-3k for so many extra features (rims, brakes, srm, spoiler). As you know, adding those will cost way more separately and there's no way you can add SRM to a non-sport without some crazy Frankenstein thing.

I can tell you that the SRM is pretty cool and makes it a lot easier for me since I'm not good at heel/toe to begin with.

I can't compare the brakes since I've had the Akebono's since I got the car, although I test drove a Touring base and the brakes seemed pretty adequate in regular street driving (they just look ugly as hell compared to the Akebono)

Lol I can't stand base brakes, looks cheap as ****

frankenstein indeed. i might wait a year or so and get the 13 model. i could always replace any stock parts and replace them on the new sport model! When i was first looking for my z (i was originally looking for a 300zx) i didnt like the look of the base 370 without the spoiler. My touring came with the spoiler which completes the look of the body IMO. Although the nismo spoiler looks so good too :icon14:

at 60k miles on a 09, sounds like a good time to trade up.

i definitely like the sport brakes. works great especially for street it's plenty of power. looks good too, no complaints.

the SRM is great. i think you'd probably want one even if you dont use it if you bought a 370z. it's one of those 'featured' things special for the car. be like buying a blackberry with no qwerty keypad...

If you bought yours new and maintained it well, and are looking to trade for a used vehicle of similar mileage you may end up with more issues down the road. SRM's pretty cool, but not worth swapping cars for. Buy a set of Akebonos and a new diff and be happy.

Not worth the hassle to trade in for the same car just for SRM, wheels, and brakes. If this were like a 4 cylinder to 6 cylinder trade, auto to manual trans trade, or even regular to NISMO trade, I would say go for it.

I was considering the same but then..... I got the mod bug, and the rest is history

I love my base model besides the crappy stereo, I picked up sport rims for 900 only thing I really hurting on is brakes and LSD if those even matter for spirited street driving

Chuck33079 01-25-2013 03:41 PM

You could probably buy a set of takeoff Rays, an Akebono setup and VLSD and put it on for less than the hit you're going to take swapping cars.

The nav is great. I love mine. The Bose stereo you have to buy with the nav is not great. I will replace mine.

the way i see it now if i save for a big down payment, then get the sport model or nismo, ill have a newer z with fewer miles AND everything i want from my Z. I already have the lowest interest rate with my bank now because of my A credit, but with a big down payment my payments will go down, therefore i will be able to afford more mods. Never enough mods. My 09 has just over 60k miles and is solid as a rock, so ill be sad to let it go.
