Dealership oil change

So i went in today to get my free first oil change and when I got home i looked at the receipts and everything and noticed that they used 0W-20 Synthetic oil. I have noticed on the forums and in the manual it says to use 5W-30. I am fixing to call the service department and see what is up with this.... Do they not have a clue what is going on?

NO they don't. Better to do it yourself regardless if it was free.

Give a call and ask exactly what product they used. Some 0/20's are very good oils that are stiff 20's that don't sheer. Some 30w's sheer to a 20w in 1000 miles. Depends on the product etc...

I just got back from the stealership and they admitted that they "grabbed" the wrong oil and replaced it and the oil filter with the correct products. They also gave me a credit for another oil change along with several apologies from the all the mangers along with the salesman.

This really makes me nervous that if they couldn't even put the correct oil in my Z what else could they forget? Looks like i will be doing my own maintenance from now on. Lesson learned.

Grabbed the wrong oil...

Go have them change it out when you have a chance and WATCH them pour the oil in
Next oil change do the same... Try to have them use Nissan's Ester Oil

Then find a new dealer

heck, using synthetic on a free is nice. They tried to use bottom barrel in mine, and I damn near slapped the taste out of their mouth.

Ester Oil

According to everything I could find, with the help of this forum, the oil with ester, is far superior. (I don't know what ester is??) Mobile One has ester.
Cheers

Don't trust stealerships.

I got them to change my waterpump (should have done it myself) and they 'forgot' to put coolant back in.

WOW... That's worse than using 0w20 vs 5w30

What Nissan uses 0w20??? That's a very Honda oil (as well as hybrid Toyotas)

They also thought my stock car was a nissan skyline, and when I told them it was a totally stock 240sx they asked where I had the skyline front end put on it. I don't trust Nissan dealerships with anything now.

Your point? we have one of the best economies and research/learning institutions in the United States and a ton of car/race/mechanic oriented people. I myself am a doctor not some redneck. Don't be hating on NC. Seems they should get it right.

That said, this dealership was in SC which is a different story.

0-20 oil, what a joke. Go some where else or do it yourself, that tech needs fired :rofl2:. I never had anyone grab the,"wrong oil".
