Rattle in dash behind 3 gauge pod only above 5k rpm

It only happens above 5k RPM, otherwise I never hear it... Any ideas where its coming from?

The motor is on high rev pushing out that powah!!

I have the same thing except mine usually only happens between 2-3k rpm and only in the winter when it's cold out. I'm sure it's something under the dash but I'm not about to rip it all out to try and fix it.

Same could be said for the dreaded shifter knob rattle. Only happens at about 3-5k rpm and only when cold.

This happens even during warm weather... only at 5k+

It's most likely an animal of some kind that is trapt in your dash!

in dash behind 3 gauge pod?

:bowrofl: Bunch of smart-asses!

Do you notice any movement in the gauge itself? Wondering if it could be what's loose or a connector/wire in the back.

Either way, sounds like you may have to rip apart the dash to find the cause.

I was just gonna say this. :bowrofl: The 3 guage is still a design fail they should have added some new components that could be handy. OP looks like you have to rip apart your dash, GL! :rofl2:

I don't have any noticeable vibration with it... just the sound...

juld0zer 04-05-2013 10:43 AM

Someone else mentioned that it could be grit stuck between the windscreen and the cowl covers.

Otherwise, take a look here:

Might save you (or a young monkey at the dealer) ripping apart the dash and introducing 10000 more rattles!

My MB had TONS of rattles. Everywhere, anywhere. It's what I got for buying the first year of production. Anyhow...

Have someone else drive and start pushing down on different areas near seams where the sound is coming from. When you find a spot that stops the rattle, take a small piece of double sided tape like 3M body tape (about 1/2" x 1/8") and push it down in the seam with something like a paint scraper. Push it as far as it will go so you don't see it. Repeat as necessary. Anything to separate and / or wedge the panels will work, the advantage to using double sided tape is that it won't work it's way out.

I'll bet I had 50 pieces of it in my Mercedes to stop all the rattles - but you couldn't see a thing.

I have rattles all over my trunk, not up front. It could be many things... possibly in the engine but sounds like inside? you have the filters close to there, the plastic panels that pop rivet in and around your wiper blades, battery holder vibrating?? Are you sure its definitely inside the cabin in the dash?

Its my biggest annoyance with these cars, they rattle like crazy. Honestly dont know if I could buy another Nissan due to that.
