This setup was diffused years ago with adding a sensor in the front of a radar detector. Plus, the top end radar detectors can pick up most signals from one to two miles away.
Currently there are only two ways for a cop to catch you without setting off a radar detector and being able to pull you over. Laser, if you are hit you are screwed, and instant on setups. The instant on setups are still very rare as laser is more accurate and instant on does not always ping the fastest car.

there are devices that completely fry the laser. Lookie:

K-40 LD5500 PLUS Laser Diffuser *Free Shipping W/Paypal Payment*

And unlike the bogus "radar jammers", these appear to work from what I've read on other forums.

I have read up on some of those setups, you get 50/50 results from people (though it is the internet). Never really have been concerned about laser, most of the times you can clearly see cops in Houston you are "trying" to use laser.

If your V1 is going off to a bunch of unnecessary x-band sources, you can change to a different mode. My V1 is quiet as a mouse unless it's active threat.

To each his own.

But I believe the Escort Passport 9500ix to be the best radar laser detector of its type currently available on the market at this time.

Enjoy!

Alex

Escort Passport 9500ix Review

By Consumer Research.

"For the earliest possible warning that a radar gun looms nearby, experts have traditionally recommended the Valentine One -- until now. The Escort Passport 9500ix (*Est. $500) has caught up to the Valentine One's long-range radar detection in SpeedZones.com's authoritative tests, and the Escort will also warn you about upcoming speed and red-light cameras -- something the Valentine One cannot do. The Escort also cuts down on false alarms, users' major complaint about the Valentine One. However, people who own a Valentine One radar detector often say they wouldn't want anything else. They like that it won't become obsolete, because the company offers continual upgrades, and they swear by the Valentine One's dual front-and-rear antennas and unusual directional arrows that show whether a radar or laser signal is coming from ahead or behind.
The objective, expert test data presented at SpeedZones.com and GuysOfLidar.com show how the Valentine One measures up against other radar detectors -- but the recent SpeedZones.com test includes the latest detectors, while the older GuysOfLidar.com test does not. A lengthy written review at LaserVeil.com is accompanied by a video review, and both are based on testing. The 007RadarDetectors.com site clearly ranks radar detectors according to their capabilities, but test methods are not clearly stated. The Valentine One has accumulated a large number of user reviews at Epinions.com, where it is a favorite of consumer"

My opinion is that as long as you go with a "better" quality detector you cant lose. I have two 8500 X50 Passport Escorts [1 blue and 1 red] and swear by them. There is no real difference between the 8500 and the 9500 except for the GPS the 9500 has. I also agree the V1 is good but dont really care about the arrows or where the cops at. If the detector goes off I am slowing down and dont need arrows.

Cops set up with two of them ahead of you ....say a mile apart....especially on Hwy 58....and if you speed up after passing one of them you are dead meat ! That is what the arrows are for......The arrows show the number of cops and their direction...say 2 in front...then as you pass one...it goes to one arrow behind you and one in front. I have Photo Block on my plates for redlight cameras......works great. The Valentine saves my A$$ at least one time a week and has ever since I got it.

Another review: Best radar detector reviews from the world's most respected authority.

"The Valentine One is a highly sensitive radar detector--good enough that I declared it the winner of my 2000 Automobile Magazine shootout--but it's no longer top dog by default. The world of radar detection has changed significantly since the V1 was designed in 1991 by engineers Steve Scholl and Clarence Groth. The Apple IIsi also was hot stuff that year but Apple wisely chose not to continue trying to sell the same box. They replaced it with smaller, faster, better models packed with advanced features.
In a sense, the Valentine One seems to be trapped in a time warp. Even the owner manual reflects 1980s thinking, replete with statements such as "X-band [is] most common for moving and stationary [radar]." Excuse me? 48 of the 50 state highway patrols abandoned it decades ago and even one of the remaining two users began a wholesale migration to Ka-band frequency in recent years.
With an increasingly wide gap in the Valentine One's level of sophistication compared to modern designs--not to mention a minimalist feature set, quirky ergonomics, an exceptionally chatty nature and stiff price tag--the competition has clearly passed it by. One in particular, the Escort Passport RedLine, also handily outclassed it in performance in a recent test.
The Valentine One remains an iconic example of the pinnacle of late 20th century technology. However, we're now well into the 21st century and recent advances in technology are impossible to ignore."

Just my two cents,

Alex
