Question about common problems
Hey so I am planning getting the 370 soon, was wondering if there are common problems that I have to be ready for? Like my accord has rear deck rattle and apparently 95% of the cars from the factory have this problem.
|
1. Steering lock failure(09-11 models).
2. Clutch pressure(CSC) failure. 3. Fuel Starvation. 4. Thin paint. 5. New members can't find the search button. |

Seriously tho...with the list provided by forza you should be able to search the forum for details based on your interest. There are also "Sticky" threads posted that have been based on q's similar to yours! Have fun and once again  welcome! Link to "sticky" for steering lock issue to get you started: http://www.the370z.com/nissan-370z-g...rt-issues.html |
Paint is thin, and some have oil consumption issues up to 2010 I think? I have had zero problems with my Z so far knock on wood.
|
I got problems 1 and 2 within a month, I feel special :)
|
Also fuel starvation is only a problem if your racing the car on a track with low fuel.

Yea so have I but only on this forum. I have actually driven my car with the gas light on making sharp turns left and right on and off on ramps trying to duplicate the issue but I never even got a cough so I don't know. Its also a problem never reported by any of my local Z friends or shops some who even race their Z's on the track. |
Rather than worry about common issues because that can be found all over, focus on all the great mods you can do to the car. That's more fun in my book.

Guess my car is special then. |
I haven't had the thin paint issue with my 09 MB....
|
The only time I have experienced fuel starvation is when I have wallet starvation!!!:shakes head:

I know. All I'm saying is I have actually tried to cause the issue with no luck. I don't know? |

True. Yea I'm not saying there seems to be an issue but I don't think its as bad or common as people make it out to be. I was 100% prepared to call a tow truck when my Z died but it never did. Gas light on flying around on and off ramps. |
I regularly drive my Z 30-40 miles after the gas light comes on and have filled up 18.5 Gal of the 19.1 Gal more than once. I've never encountered this problem, but I understand it happens on long, sweeping right-hand turns generally more often at highway speeds.

....A lot of people (including myself) have had issue with the gas cap. It can make the Service Engine Soon light come on because it doesnt seal correctly. Just go to the auto store and buy yourself a new one. STANT brand will do.
|
...ohhh also just take out the fuse to disable your steering wheel lock. Many people have been stranded because it malfunctions causing the car to be unable to start. The fix is easy. Search the forum for instructions.
over all the car is pretty bullet proof. !!!!!!!! |

I had the fuel starve happen to me today for the first time at 1/2 tank taking a looping right-hander at a pretty quick speed on regular streets. It bucked, cut power, all service lights came on. I was trying to remember all the knowledge I learned from this forum regarding this issue, but went blank. I coasted to a stop, turned off the car. Re-started it, fired right up, coughed again, and then was fine. Went on my merry way :driving:

I have had problems 1-4.
1 and 2 are the most expensive @ $1400 for #1 (assuming you do not do the correction and let it go out like i did) and #2 is goinfg to cost me about a grand for a new flywheel and clutch assembly (they csc are under warranty but since I bought my car used the clutch is slipping and needs replacing). soooo.... #1 you can fix. #2 is a maybe. 3-4 you are just gonna have to deal with. |
To add to above listing:
Rear "poppers" for hatch may stick -- there is a TSB, and will be covered under warranty (I need to get mine done). Fuel gauge notorious for intermittently reading 1 or 2 ticks below "full" even when full (my '10 did this, my 11 has not, thus far...). Be mindful of oil consumption -- there is a TSB for this as well, and if a certain threshold of loss is noted, Nissan will replace the longblock if within warranty. Ongoing debate over need for an oil cooler -- in short, if you regularly see temps over 240* F during normal driving (or plan to track it), consider a cooler. Lots of threads on this topic. There is also a thread on here with all TSB's as well as links to service manual |

Also surprised nobody has mentioned the cabin noise especially with the OP mentioning the rattling hatch, heh. :stirthepot: I have ran into the CSC/master failure although I did go to an aftermarket clutch... I also have ran into the fuel starvation issue. Twice (in the same session on different laps) on the track and once while I was off the track taking a sharp right turn. |
